CAD Technician - Quakertown, PA

Celerity Integrated Services, located in Quakertown, PA, is looking for a full time CAD/GIS Technician for our Engineering department. The CAD/GIS technician uses computer assisted design (CAD) and geographical information systems (GIS) to create detailed engineering plans, construction prints and splicing schematics that are utilized by Celerity crews on construction and/or splicing projects, and for Celerity's customers as a permanent record of the work completed. These detailed, technical drawings incorporate the input of engineers/designers, project managers and department managers, and specify geographic location, site and plan dimensions, various codes, materials, and construction and splicing methods among other items. The Engineering CAD/GIS technician completes and edits the draft version that is applicable to a project bid, as well as, both the construction issue, and as-built prints. They develop and generate both electronic and paper versions of the drawings as needed, or a workable template for projects and bids.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Possesses working knowledge of Google Earth/ Arc GIS, CAD, GPS and Microsoft Office software, especially Excel spreadsheets.
• Convert sketches or written notes from a Field Technician into detailed CAD drawings suitable for Outside/Inside Plant design and drawings.
• Convert sketches or specifications of a project or product from an architect, engineer, or other designer into detailed CAD drawings.
• Understands utility route plans, easements and public right of ways.
• Identifies various types of utilities from a desktop and CAD design.
• Creates and revises construction drawings and splicing schematics using computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software.
• Creates and modifies layouts and details from contract documents and specifications.
• Reviews engineering drawings/documents and makes revisions accordingly.
• Prepares applications and assists in the permit procurement process.
• Performs research and documentation for standard utility drawings, as well as, for local, state, and/or federal permit application requirements.
• Maintains tracking spreadsheet of permit progress.
• Maintains tracking spreadsheets of progress for CAD and other project statuses.
• Works with data sets to retrieve information for reports or Excel spreadsheets and formats as required for various entities.
• Prepares documents containing visual markups of route locations for customer packages.

  Education and Experience:

  • Associates Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Electronics, or Computer Science is preferred, or equivalent education and experience for a CAD/GIS Technician.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office and Windows applications, some working knowledge of another CAD program is helpful but not essential.
  • Training in multiple CAD programs and platforms, general computing theory and a variety of productivity applications is a plus.
  • Completion of GIS related courses, however, a certificate or GIS degree is preferred.
  • Technology based background or experience in a construction related field is a plus.
  • One to two years of experience working for a utility, construction, engineering or telecommunications company working on GIS related activities is desired.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and interpret instructions is essential.
  • Strong math skills and a firm understanding of geometry.
  • Must be able to interpret instructions either written, oral, diagramed, or in schedule form.
