The Center for Applied Linguistics is located in Washington DC. While our physical location is currently closed, we are transitioning to a hybrid workplace where staff may work in person at the office or may work from home. Staff may work from locations outside of Washington DC, Maryland, or Virginia if approved for telework. However, this position is not open to candidates residing in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, California, or the U.S. Territories.
SUMMARY
The Director of PreK-12 Language and Literacy will focus on coordinating and providing services in the areas of research, policy, practice, and innovation in language, culture and education. The Director will provide leadership and lead business development initiatives for the Pre-K-12 Language and Literacy Unit. The Director will also focus on collaborating and coordinating with other CAL staff to deliver and develop new and existing services in the areas of PreK-12 language, culture and education. Furthermore, the Director will focus on identifying and pursuing initiatives with partner organizations and state and federal agencies, and initiate projects that build on and expand CAL's existing strengths, in order to increase CAL's involvement and visibility in providing asset and equity-based services in this arena.

Minimum Salary: $100,694 Annually
The ideal person will have proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English. Candidate will have the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team members and to foster collegial working environments. The candidate will work as a facilitator for the team to maximize time and resource utilization, leading to useful outputs and outcomes for all stakeholders involved. Experience and expertise in conducting research on educational approaches for multilingual learners is desirable. The candidate will be committed to providing leadership in offering and promoting pedagogical solutions that are asset and equity-based and not tied to deficit or compensatory approaches.

This position requires extensive travel (50%-75% travel).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicate. The employee may be required to sit or stand in a stationary position 50% of the time. This position constantly operates a computer and other office productivity equipment. CAL adheres to ADA compliance and guidelines as a common practice.
