POSITION SUMMARY

Seeking Assistant Fire Chief for Chennault International Airport and its surrounding areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide management oversight of all the shifts' operational responsibilities
  • Ensure that all shift reports and training requirements are met
  • Review all reports and logbooks to insure they are complete and accurate
  • Review pay records
  • Assist with the procurement process
  • Ensure completion of required code compliance inspections
  • Ensure completion of new hire and annual medical physicals
  • Ensure the disciplinary system is being followed
  • Can assist the Fire Chief with management of the current fire department operating budget
  • Ensure that all monthly inspections and duties are conducted and documented accordingly
  • Ensure that all monthly inventory records are conducted and documented accordingly
  • Conduct a review of all reports written during the shift
  • Perform operational audits
  • Review department records and documents to ensure compliance to national standards and customer requirements
  • Perform spot testing of department personnel relative to their understanding of the department's rules and regulations and procedures
  • Sit as a member of the fire department's promotion board
  • At the Fire Chief's request, sit on the fire department Health and Safety Committee as well as any other committee that has been instituted to improve the operation of the fire department
  • Act as the primary Incident Commander for any and all emergencies on the airfield and surrounding property until relieved by the Fire Chief. They then will be assigned a position within the Incident Management System or given other tasks to perform on scene.
  • Train all new hires and in-service personnel to meet the job performance requirements of the department
  • Ensure that the fire department training is always in compliance with the most recent standards as issued by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and in compliance with all elements of the FAA and Government regulations
  • Develop the training schedule to ensure the department complies with NAS 3306, FAR 139, and company minimum training standards
  • Coordinate training with shift captains.
  • Evaluate Captains and Firefighters with both written tests and practical evolutions.
  • Enter training information into the computer system.
  • Maintain personal training files for evaluation by inspectors.
  • Train firefighters on proper use and maintenance of equipment used within the fire department.

  • Review training reports
  • Conduct and observe drills and exercises for compliance to response guidelines
  • Conduct internal training program audits
  • The Assistant Chief / Training Officer is responsible for any other duties assigned to them by the Fire Chief.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The qualified candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Be a United States citizen or legal alien
  • Have telephone and transportation as to be available for emergency situations
  • Possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Understand both verbal and written English with the ability to effectively communicate with people
  • No prior felony convictions and a clean criminal history
  • Complete pre-employment physical (DOT)
  • Complete annual SCBA fit testing
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in an airport fire department that includes fire suppression duties, of which 3 years need to be in a supervisory capacity, and 3 years working at an FAA Index E Class 4 airfield or larger
  • Hazardous Materials Operations
  • Hazardous Materials Incident Commander
  • Safety Officer
  • Firefighter II
  • Fire Officer II
  • ARFF
  • LABEMS Emergency Medical Technician
  • NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800
  • Must hold a Firefighter Instructor Certificate
  • High School diploma or equivalent

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Some travel required for training

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • May be required to lift and carry heavy weight.
  • Must be able to perform all tasks of a Firefighter/EMS professional.
  • Must be able to perform tasks while wearing an SCBA and full firefighting PPE.
  • Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday
