Overview
UAB Urec personal trainers strive to help students, alumni, and employees get educated on smart strategies that work so they can lose weight, tone up, and live life the way they want. UAB personal trainers work inside of the recreation center and work with clients in a 1:1 or small group setting. Personal trainers must have a valid personal training certification to work.
We're managed by CENTERS, LLC, a professional management firm specializing in facility, operation, and program management for higher education. CENTERS' management approach is customized for each client yet retains our uniform quality. Our firm unites site staff with a centralized administrative team, each contributing to the firm's goals and client needs. The CENTERS team is innovative, entrepreneurial, trail-blazing, and ambitious for both CENTERS and our clients. Today, CENTERS provides management services for 14 clients.
Responsibilities
- Safely coach and oversee clients through personal training sessions with programming that aligns with their goals at the Recreation Center
- Provide quality customer service to all clients and potential clients, regardless of fitness level, appearance, or otherwise
- Ensure client safety and education throughout the strength and cardio areas
- Communicate effectively with the supervisor, co-workers, and clients through phone, email, or in person
- Assist with client retention, sales, marketing, recruitment, etc
- Be open to mentorship and coaching about the human body, health, fitness, movement through exercise, and the business of personal training
- Enforce all program policies and procedures as it pertains to the personal training program
- Enforce all building policies and procedures and assist as needed during emergencies
- Attend all Personal Training and all-department staff meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Possess current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications
- Possess current certification in one of the following, examples include, but not limited to: ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA; additional NCCA-accredited certifications are often acceptable and will be reviewed for consideration
- Leadership and supervisory abilities
- Entrepreneurial or Creative spirit and enthusiasm
- Excellent organizational, and written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Knowledge of standard practices in personal training
- Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles
Competencies:
Technical Competencies
- Proficiency with Fitness Assessment Equipment, including but not limited to: Blood Pressure, Height, Weight, Body Fat measurement with calipers, Waist to Hip Ratio, Cardiovascular Testing, Muscular Strength and Endurance Testing, and Flexibility Testing
- Proficient with Exercise Prescription and developing progressive workouts for clients
Human Relations:
Internal contacts include staff at all levels. External contacts include external customers and vendors. Contact involves troubleshooting, informing, exchanging information, negotiating, making recommendations, and giving information or instructions.
