Job Description:
Position Summary:
Assesses needed nursing care; provides direct nursing care services to clients/patients under supervision of a charge nurse or physician; is able to assume charge nurse position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of an approved school or college of nursing; current Florida licensure as a registered professional nurse; 3 years' nursing experience, at least 1 of which is in a mental health setting.
Preferred Qualification:
Psychiatric Nursing experience
Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrates written and verbal competency. Employee must demonstrate basic computer skills.
Essential Functions:
Reports to work as scheduled to ensure adequate staffing to meet the needs of clients.
Administers medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician.
Performs nursing and physical assessments of clients/patients.
Evaluates clients/patients nursing needs; develops and maintains nursing care plans.
Provides nursing care information for the treatment planning process.
Documents nursing care needed and provided in SOAP format.
Provides guidance to psychiatric technicians in their administering to the nursing needs of clients/patients.
Provides medication education and related activities to clients/patient.
Coordinates client/patient assignments for assigned nursing staff.
Monitors scheduling and staffs according to unit needs.
Actively participates in PI and disseminates information to staff.
Obtain orders from treating/on-call physician.
Monitors seclusion and restraint for appropriate patient care and documentation.
Team player.
Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Noise level is high in some patient care areas. The position as described walks, sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during work hours. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Is involved with clients, residents, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., in a behavioral health hospital and addictions setting. The employee will frequently be required to lift/pull/push/move up to 50 pounds. Must utilize conversational speech for effective verbal communication.
