Community Health Worker Intern | Summer

Full-time 80 hours every 2 weeks | Monday- Friday 8a- 5p with occasional weekends | This position is temporary for the summer (June-Aug) | Ideal candidate would be a current student in the Community Health Program 

JOB SUMMARY:
A member of the community who applies his or her unique understanding of the experience, language, and/or culture to communicate a comprehensive health education program to diverse members of the community specifically in education partnership with parents, families, and children to complete behavioral-developmental screening. The Community Health Worker Intern will be responsible for assisting patients with a variety of care coordination activities. This role specifically focused on building an educational partnership with parents, families, and children to complete behavioral-developmental screening. Activities will vary based on patient need, but basic functions will include helping patients to navigate the healthcare system, understand and be connected to CentraCare entities to eliminate barriers to care. This position is temporary and will run from June 2024- August 2024 for a total of 300 working hours. 

EDUCATION:

• Post Secondary education - Currently enrolled
• Community Health program preferred. 

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in community outreach, preferably with the target audience and culture.
• Working knowledge of various systems of health care in the community.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider card prior to completion of unit orientation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prefer experience with culture-related learning principles and effective communication methods.
• Preferred Bi-Lingual: Spanish/Somali
• A valid Minnesota driver’s license, a driving record in good standing, and the minimum amount of insurance liability coverage may be required.
• Candidate will have reliable transportation and be driving their own personal vehicle for this position.
