Job Posting for Academic Success Coach, Upward Bound at Central Arizona College

Is responsible for providing college, career, and academic advising to high school students with specific emphasis on individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, students of low-income status, first generation college students, and under-served populations. Plan and implement Upward Bound programming, including enrichment and cultural excursions; work collaboratively with students, student services, and high school and college faculty and staff; prioritize and meet timelines and deadlines; mentor students and conduct workshops to facilitate the academic success of program participants. This position is dependent upon grant funding.

Provide program services to UB participants in target high schools, including advising, enrichment activities, tutoring, group presentations, and workshops. Maintain a physical presence at all target high schools.
Assist in planning and implementation of TRIO Upward Bound events, tutoring schedules at local high schools, and enrichment activities. Attend all scheduled events and visits to universities and cultural activities.
Assist in planning, coordination, and staffing of the six-week Summer Institute. Reside on campus for a five-day residential component of the six-week institute.
Assist students with residency concerns, registration and financial appeals, FAFSA/scholarship applications
Thorough documentation of all project activities and interactions with participants & families. Contribute to the successful submission of the required Annual Performance Report.
Design strategies to identify and advise under-served student populations while monitoring academic progress. Must be able to travel out of state to attend workshops and conferences for professional growth as required.
Utilize database tools to extract data, run queries, and analyze results.
Perform other duties commensurate with the function and level of the position. Occasional extended working weekdays and weekends required. Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in specified field related to the assigned area; Master's Degree in Education, Social work, or related field desired.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year related experience. Experience can include, but is not limited to, post-secondary student services experience in admissions, advising, career services, counseling, financial aid, recruitment, registration, residence life, student accounts, and Student Support Service Programs (TRiO/Upward Bound). Other examples of related experience
include student guidance in an educational setting or case management/counseling skills in a behavioral health setting.

Background Verification: As a condition of employment, all candidates accepting an offer of employment for a full-time, part- time, temporary, student worker, or volunteer position, will be required to undergo a Background Verification. Employment with Central Arizona College is contingent upon the successful completion of the background verification. The level the background verification for this position is: Standard level.

Knowledge of academic and career advising processes, records maintenance and student information systems
Knowledge of modern office technology and web site development software to include Microsoft Office Suite and the proper use of grammar, spelling and punctuation
Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, instructors, college officials, the general public, and the college community.
Ability to prioritize, organize and complete tasks according to plans and deadlines in a high visibly and high volume environment.
Ability to work independently as a pivotal team member of student services
Knowledge of current best practices related to the provision of academic support services to underserved youth.
