PURPOSE
The Cultural Heritage Specialist, with guidance from the CHE Director and Coordinator,
will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Southeast Alaska Indigenous Language
Digital Archive.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Generations Southeast Manager
Supervises: N/A
Liaison To: SE Indigenous Language Digital Archive Advisory Committee, Tribal Citizens, Internal/External
Partners
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist with establishing and coordinating of the Tlingit & Haida Digital Archive Advisory Committee
- Manage the selection, preparation, and transport of Indigenous language resources for digitization or
- Implement a digital archive management system in accordance with industry standards and practices
- Responsible for metadata, digital file management and digital preservation
- Process, digitize, and preserve digital archive materials and collections according to best practices and
- Oversee and develop catalog of archive holdings
- Assist in developing outreach and training materials for archive users
- Collect data and statistics; assist in compilation of grant reports
- Create and maintain partnerships with private and public sectors and key stakeholders
- Research and pursue in-house, State, and Federal funding opportunities to secure funding
- Create and maintain paper and electronic file management systems
- Maintain strict confidentiality
- Conduct surveys to determine the success and effectiveness of Tlingit & Haida Digital Archives
- Other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge and principles and theories in the field or program and ability to apply in situations or
- Ability to analyze and interpret information from multiple sources including but not limited to statutes,
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent persuasive and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent computer skills including but not limited to the MS Office Suite programs, and databases
- Ability to prepare grant applications
- Working knowledge of OMB, A-87 requirements
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Strong supervision skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
- High School Diploma
- 2 years’ experience as a Technician in a related field
- Valid Driver’s License
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
- Associate Degree in library or museum services or related field and/or a combination of relevant
- Knowledge of Southeast Alaska Indigenous cultures, ethical practices, privacy concerns, and copyright
- Support a culture of inclusion and diversity
UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine
walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry
may be required.
