POSITION SUMMARY:

Works with the physician to coordinate inpatient care activities such as screening patients, taking histories, performing physical exams, and performing developmental screening exams.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct patient histories and assessments for complex critical, chronically ill, and acute patients
• Orders, performs, and analyzes diagnostic and psychiatric tests concerning the needs of the patient, and follow up on a regular basis to ensure their needs are being adequately met.
• Implements measures to assist patients in regaining and sustaining psychological health.
• Develops treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines under the guidance of a supervising physician.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals and monitoring the effectiveness of all interventions.
• Conducts assessments and prescribes medications and pharmacologic/non-pharmalogic treatments as approved by the supervisory physician based on efficacy and cost, to ensure the health and comfort of all patients and serve as the patient’s primary healthcare provider

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• Must possess valid, unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in at least one jurisdiction in the United States or its territories, or unrestricted privileges to practice as a Physician Assistant for a government agency.
• Must possess current Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Psychiatry
• Three to five years’ experience in a clinical setting required
• Must have a reliable source of transportation and be able to travel via air and car to attend training programs.
