What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Counselor position at Central Falls School District?
The School Counselor is responsible for assisting students with their academic success and social development. As a member of the School Support Team, the School Counselor is a member of a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes student success, and offers proactive support to all students with a focus on equity and expanding access. The School Counselor communicates with School Leadership around students socio-emotional well-being and academic needs.Goals of the Position: To collaborate, consult and partner with teachers, parents, and administrators to develop strategies to help students related to academic performance, truancy, and behavioral needs. To increase FAFSA completion rates.
To increase PSAT and SAT participation. To increase graduation rates.To create and strategically develop positive relationships with all members of the school community (students, families, faculty/staff and community partners).To ensure students equitable access to an effective comprehensive counseling program.To support all students in developing a clearly defined post secondary plan.Essential Duties: Applies school counseling professional standards and competencies Meets regularly and establishes a supportive relationship with each student on the counselors caseload and provides individual and group counseling and guidance in order to assist students in making wise choices, to utilize their potential, and have an understanding of different academic and career opportunitiesProvides wraparound services and/or makes referrals to appropriate school and community resourcesWorks with students to develop and revise their Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and assists with implementation of ILP program for all students Key member of the schools Attendance Team and monitors attendance interventions/initiativesCo-leads the scheduling and implementation of the different states standardized testing process/trainings/protocols for all state-mandated testing (i.e. PSAT/SAT, ACCESS, etc.) Identifies students who are at risk and/or in need for social, emotional, or academic supports and refers them to appropriate services Works with students in and out of the classroom to improve their behavior and school functioningLeads/organizes and/or facilitates 504 meetings and monitors a caseload of students with 504 plansProvides 504 directed services which includes overseeing the accommodations and at times providing direct counseling services to students on counselors caseload and students in crisisPlans educational programs and activities for students and their families to increase awareness of relevant issues in their lives preventing them from achieving their full potentialPlans educational programs and activities for students that will increase academic achievement outcomes (such as success plans, college/career resources, etc.)Tracks, analyzes, and presents student and school-related data with the goal of promoting school success and student effectiveness and assessing the effectiveness of the school counseling programReviews and assess level of ESL services/enrollment supportConducts risk assessments, as neededCommunicates with parents regarding their childs academic advancement and details of their achievement data toward their progress in meeting grade-level standardsInitiates and supports students in pursuit of post-secondary plans, including guiding upperclassmen through the college application processSupports the scheduling process with other School Counselors and AdministrationConducts intake meetings with new students/familiesAssists in the orientation, coordination, academic advising and scheduling of students on caseloadFacilitates trainings for students and families on utilizing student information systems and key platformsParticipates as a member of the Evaluation Team (ET), as required by regulationsActively participates in progress monitoring for MTSSSuch other duties deemed necessary by the Building Administrator.
