POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dental Compliance and Infection Control Specialist works in coordination and cohesively with the Chief Quality Officer/Risk Manager (CQO/RM) and the Quality Compliance Supervisor/Safety Officer. The focus of this position will be to ensure dental program compliance, infection control Compliance, and sterilization and disinfection compliance; complete environment of care rounds, educate staff and work with all levels of leadership to improve the dental and infection control operations of Central Florida Health Care (CFHC).
The Dental Compliance and Infection Control Specialist will assist in establishing, assuring, and assessing Dental Compliance and Infection Control. This position is responsible for the goals and objectives of CFHC’s Infection Control Plan, CFHC’s Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan, CFHC Sterilization and Disinfection Procedure, Respiratory Protection Plan, and the Hazardous Material Plan. This employee will also work with clinical staff and leadership on compliance and re-training related to the Joint Commission’s Standards, HRSA, OSHA and all other local, State and Federal Guidelines pertaining to Dental Compliance and Infection Control.

EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the dental field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with sterilization and disinfection
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with infection control guidelines and PPE compliance
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience with electronic health records
Preferred:
- Knowledge of Joint Commission, and/or quality management
- Knowledge of CDC guidelines
- Knowledge of OSHA and HRSA standards for healthcare
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and remain flexible
- Exceptional team, communication, and written/oral skills
RESPONSIBILTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Ensure Dental and Infection Control Compliance at all dental and OB/Gyn locations
- Educate staff on meeting requirements as it relates to The Joint Commission, OSHA, AHCA, Florida Board of Dentistry, HRSA, CDC and Manufacturers Guidelines and all other local, state and federal entities
- Complete monthly Environment of Care (EOC) rounds at each dental location and in all Sterilization and Disinfection rooms located in all Dental and OB/Gyn departments
- Observe dental staff during clinical operations to ensure proper procedures are being followed, including customer service techniques and patient identification requirements. Perform training and implementation of process improvement techniques as necessary
- Observe dental staff during patient discharge to ensure proper procedures, forms and instructions are followed and given to patients. Perform training, and implementation of process improvement techniques as necessary.
- Complete and submit monthly EOC reports within 24hrs of inspection
- Will work with Supervisor’s and staff during EOC rounds to immediately correct non-compliance. If site and/or staff non-compliance continues without resolution the issues will be shared with the supervisor and Human Resources.
- Research process improvement initiatives and implement continuous improvement protocols
- Track and trend data relating to Dental Compliance and Infection Control
- Re-Train Dental staff on compliance issues and manufacturer guidelines as necessary
- Re-Train OB/Gyn staff on compliance issues and manufacturer guidelines as necessary
- Review instrument inventory in Dental and OB/Gyn to ensure manufacturer’s guidelines are being followed per use and sterilization/disinfection
- Review instrument inventory in Dental and OB/Gyn with the intent to reduce multiple manufacturer’s and create inventory with manufacturer’s guidelines for use and cleaning requirements
- Create and maintain manufacturer’s guidelines manuals for all Dental and OB/Gyn locations
- Responsible for infection control program surveillance and education
- Re-Train all staff on infection control procedures, hand hygiene and PPE donning/doffing guidelines during monthly inspections as necessary
- Work with Risk Management Assistant regarding infection control incident reports
- Investigate, follow-up and report on post procedural infections
- Complete N-95 record keeping per OSHA standards and the Respiratory Protection Plan
- N-95 Fit Testing for new employee’s and on-going as needed
- Oversee N-95 Inventory within the Quality Improvement department
- Audit water-line testing, straws, and suction compliance; ensure compliance, follow-up, and training accordingly
- Oversee the Hand Hygiene Surveillance Program (required by Joint Commission)
- Ensure dental Lead Apron Annual X-Ray inspection report compliance
- Ensure dental dosimeter compliance for dental staff
- Responsible for MSDSonline, hazardous material inventory for CFHC
- Responsible for Nitrous Oxide monitoring device compliance, follow-up, and training accordingly
- Responsible for biomedical waste contract compliance, changes, ordering of containers for new sites, adding and removing locations and staff
- Responsible for Stericycle biomedical waste manifest record keeping and invoice evaluation
- Responsible for creating Annual Red OSHA Binders for all locations
- Responsible for creating Red OSHA Binders for all new locations
- Responsible for Eye Wash Station compliance per guidelines at all locations, dental, medical, facilities and laboratory departments
- Keep up with Athena Clinical Buckets as it relates to dental, ob/gyn, eyewash station or sterilization and disinfection compliance
- Obtain Infection Control training and maintain knowledge with on-going education
- Other duties as assigned
