What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Checker 1st Shift position at Central Garden & Pet?
Our Pet Segment is seeking a Quality Checker on 1st Shift to be a part of our Kaytee division based in in our Chilton, WI facility. You would be responsible for Checking pallets for picking accuracy and ensuring the product is in good shape and wrapped properly to the pallet.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS
- Check pallets for picking accuracy and ensuring the product is in good shape and wrapped properly to the pallet.
- Create and maintain both spreadsheet and software databases and generate reports of findings.
- Work in and communicate with both office and plant environments equally well.
- Assist with customer complaint investigations.
- Ensure materials are in proper locations. Conduct searches to locate missing materials and or wrong pallets in pick spots.
- Open cartons to count items and/or weigh materials to determine quantity on hand.
- Report discrepancies of over/under amounts and any damaged products to supervision - publish weekly and quarterly inventory metrics.
- Communicate and develop process enhancements as needed (performs root cause analysis on inventory discrepancies and recommends process improvements to eliminate them).
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor or as the business necessitates.
IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow documented procedures and standards.
- Ability to work flexible schedule.
- Three years related experience in a high volume- manufacturing environment.
- Understands and has experience working with Lean (LDM) principles.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Plant environment with periodic visits to the office area.
- Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours (on each respective shift) and average at least 40 hours a week.
- There may be some variation in work hours due to overtime, special projects, deadlines, and other concerns.
- Exposed to any number of elements, but none present to the extent of being disagreeable.
- Noise level in the work environment varies with specific areas requiring hearing protection.
