As a Data Scientist II, you will be squarely in the middle of honing your expertise and domain knowledge of insurance while bringing your best to deliver the data science practices among your peers. You will be carrying the torch to refine and hone-in our existing models and their revisions while at the same time pioneering your own greenfield projects to deliver new capabilities. You will also have the opportunity to influence the department’s short- and long-term strategic goals. In this role, you will be expected to use statistical techniques to solve real world problems and should be adept at interpreting and communicating key findings to employees within and external to the Data Science group.
What you will do:
Analyzes internal and external data to perform mathematical, economic and/or statistical modeling to develop actionable insights and recommendations
Develops and codes software programs and algorithms to automate analyses, build pipelines, and maintain/scale large datasets and models
Pulls data from standardized sources and disparate, dirty sources from internal and external data sources.
Contributes to relevant department data pipeline builds and documentation, incorporating basic automated testing
Handles complex experimental designs and analyses, including longitudinal studies and factorial designs
Designs and conducts A/B tests and interpret results effectively
Assess model performance using metrics like accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and ROC-AUC.
Creates visualizations and/or dashboards to address specific questions
Joins standardized data table sources into standardized formats for use in visualization, automating dataset pipelines to allow for updated and refreshed visuals
Creates basic documentation and commentary to guide end users on the purpose and usability of various visualizations.
Independently manages time, priority, project scope, and deliverables across multiple projects with exposure to independently identifying meaningful project work in addition to assigned work
Participates in large-scale analytic efforts in collaboration with coworkers, regularly communicating progress with working team
Presents findings to direct reporting group as well as to larger, external audiences, frequently leading group discussions and white boarding sessions
Utilizes data mining techniques, data visualization, and analysis methodologies to communicate insights, identify trends and anomalies, and makes recommendations to the Data Science leadership team
Identifies areas to increase efficiency and automate analytic processes via traditional methods, artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques
Translates business problems into technical requirements to provide relevant solutions that facilitate decision making within the Data Science team through appropriate use of data modeling, analysis and visualization techniques
Researches knowledge of existing and emerging data science principles, theories, and techniques
Maintains analytic documentation fit for external audit events as well as DOI objection response material
What you will bring:
Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
Or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 2 years of related experience
Or 4 years related experience
Preferred:
Experience in performing predictive analytics in a large scale enterprise
SQL experience
Programming experience (Python, Java, Scala, Rust, R, SAS, etc.)
Experience using multiple data systems and sources (such as Hadoop, Spark, Aster, Teradata, etc.
Experience with visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL Server etc.)
Demonstrated ability to build APIs
Exposure to version control, GIT Hub
Exposure to Cloud computing, AWS, Azure, GCP etc.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong data visualization development experience
Ability to set priorities and plans to meet business goals and objectives
Ability to shift & balance strategic, high-level thinking with attention to detail
Ability to lead, motivate & influence without having formal authority
Ability to act as a thought leader with a focus on innovative & high-quality solutions
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with internal /external customers
