District Support Specialist for Mental Health/Behavior/SEL
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To perform casework service support to staff district-wide in support of students with mental health needs.
- To support the development and implementation of effective programming and interventions for mental health, behaviors, and SEL.
- To support the development and intervention of tier III mental health and behavior supports in schools.
- To support social workers in the completion of home assessments as needed.
- To work closely with the Director of Mental Health/Behavior/SEL to develop and implement well-designed professional development activities as related to understanding aNd meeting the needs of students in crisis.
- To perform casework service with parents as an integral part of the task of helping students with mental health needs: to increase the parents understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child’s problems, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
- To consult and collaborate with other school personnel in gathering and giving information of a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student’s behavior.
- To develop, document and monitor school policies and procedures related to school response to students in crisis.
- To develop relationships with outside partners and supervise the referral of students to these various out-of-school agencies as necessary.
- To maintain case records and files.
- To perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Mental Health/Behavior/SEL.
REPORTS TO: Director of Mental Health/Behavioral/SEL Department
SALARY: As per LSAA contract, funding provided by Student Mental Health Grant (salary/work year aligned with District Support Specialist grid)
EFFECTIVE DATE OF EMPLOYMENT: Immediately
REQUIREMENTS:
- A Master’s of Social Work Degree from an accredited college or university (MSW) or the equivalent.
- Massachusetts Certification as School Social Worker or School Adjustment Counselor.
- Massachusetts Licensure as Social Worker or Mental Health Counselor.
- Minimum of five years’ experience working with students who exhibit social emotional/behavioral/mental health difficulties
- Ability to communicate in a second language preferred.
