WHO WE ARE

Central Queens Academy (CQA) is an award-winning, high-performing, free, public charter school which opened in 2012. Currently we serve approximately 400 middle school scholars in grades 5-8 and 300 elementary school scholars in Kindergarten-2nd grade. We will grow our elementary school and add one new grade each year until 2024 when we will serve all grades K-8. CQA was founded to serve the families in District 24, specifically those who live in and around the multiethnic, multicultural, and multilingual communities of Elmhurst, Corona and Woodside. Our scholars and their families hail from over 30 different nations and speak over 20 different languages at home. More than 80% of our scholars would be the first in their families to attend college.

The mission of Central Queens Academy Charter School is to prepare students for success in education, the workforce and the community through a school that integrates literacy, standards-based academics and culturally responsive supportive services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• When a staff member takes a long-term or mid-year leave, the Generalist teacher takes over full teaching responsibilities for that class during that period. This includes teaching, planning, grading, family communication, assessment creation and data analysis.
• When a leave position is NOT needed, the Generalist will lead the 7th/8th grade AIS (Academic Intervention Supports), push in to grade 8 STEM/ grade 5 HSS to support the ICT scholars, provide sub coverage as needed, support SPIRE reading intervention program,
• Provide testing modification support.
• Co-run a weekly advisory of scholars
• Be assigned to a differentiated Teacher PD group

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Master’s Degree preferred
• NYS Certification preferred
• At least 1-2 years of Lead teaching experience required.
• Experience/strength in content area of application highly preferred
• Evidence of self-reflective practices, coachability, self-motivation, and collaboration required

COMPENSATION

• Competitive salary, commensurate with experience ($60,000/yr)
