TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT: ELD/English Language Acquisition Specialist
The job of Teacher on Special Assignment: ELD/English Language Acquisition Specialist supports programmatic elements for multilingual students building wide. This leadership position will impart knowledge of language acquisition with colleagues. This position helps facilitate the prioritization of the needs of language learners in accessing core academic instruction and targeted English Language Development.
Essential Functions
- Communicates with parents and teachers for the purpose of reporting student progress on English language development.
Coordinates professional development for staff for the purpose of establishing a strong connection to the school-day classroom lessons.
Develops and Implements individual student skill-building plans based on district approved assessments, materials, strategies, and classroom lessons for the purpose of improving student achievement.
Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and for continued professional growth.
- Educates staff regarding ELL/EB program and enrollment, assessment and exit criteria and instructional progress.
Conducts assessments and analyzes data.
Compiles data from a variety of sources for the purpose of evaluating educational programs and services.
Shelters instruction using strong oral and written communication skills.
Understands and applies current ELD research to instructional practice.
Proactively communicates with parents who speak a variety of languages about student progress, school programs and laws, and research related to English language learner programs.
Schedules, coordinates and monitors student programs.
When requested serves as a resource person to various teams (IEP, SST, etc.)
Other Functions
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work
Preferred: Bilingual Spanish/English, Experience with Two-Way Immersion Programs, Experience with Co-Teaching Models

Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to affect the Organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 20% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions and in a clean atmosphere.
Salary : $37,400 - $47,300
