The Payroll/Benefits Specialist performs a wide range of payroll and benefits related duties. Work requires initiative and problem solving in the application of prescribed policies, procedures, and methods.
KEY RESULT AREAS:
- Responsible for all aspects of Bi-Weekly Payroll Processing. Conducts independent review, analysis, and data entry of payroll related information ensuring accuracy and compliance with Wage and Hour Laws, and other guidelines in a Multi-State, multiple FEIN environment.
- Runs, validates and distributes Payroll GL.
- Responsible for life cycle of Garnishments including data entry, answers and distribution of payments to creditors. Addresses any employee questions and concerns as related to Wage Withholdings.
- Responsible for off-cycle check payments and distribution.
- Supports reporting to Finance Department on specified cadence.
- Supports Compliance Reporting (i.e. Workers’ Compensation, BLS)
- Updates and maintains employee information in the HRIS including maintenance of payroll records in compliance with Federal & State Guidelines.
- Provides accurate employee verifications to all external sources, i.e., loan verification and final salary affidavits in partnership with 3rd party vendor.
- Support W-2 processing annually
- Processes and ensures the administrative processing of new hires, status changes and terminations assuring accuracy and timeliness for payroll processing.
- Payroll Tax support for the HR/Payroll Manager.
- Support employee benefit programs to include but not limited to health, dental, life, retirement plans, disability, and COBRA.
- Assists with coordination and administration of activities and events related to employee benefits such as annual open enrollment.
- Support audits for all benefits to ensure that employees are paying the correct deduction through payroll, including arrears collection.
- Provides customer service by answering questions in person or by telephone, or in writing. Investigates inquiries regarding payroll and benefit deduction related matters and solves problems; refers individuals to appropriate source as required.
- Responsible for departmental mail distribution.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Associates Degree in related subject preferred or actively enrolled in school pursuing a degree
- FCP or CPP preferred
- Experience working in HRIS (SAP, Oracle, ADP Vantage)
- Minimum 2-4 years’ payroll experience working in a fast-paced environment with preference for processing 500 employees
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

- Demonstrated ability to perform complex analytics, identify trend analyses and interpret data, driving business recommendations and deal with highly confidential information.
- Understanding of Federal and State Regulations to offer support to employees.
- Ability to work extended hours to meet critical deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to easily build rapport with employees and team leaders of all levels
- Ability to pivot quickly and adapt to changing environments for processing payrolls.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, Excel (intermediate skills required), PowerPoint, Outlook and Word.
- Ability to deal with sensitive information and comply with HIPPA
