As these are hybrid roles, you may be required to work on a client site for a day from time to time (Manchester, Bristol, London) for client workshops and events. In the longer term there may be a requirement for on-site work to increase but the majority of work will still be remote. All applicants must also hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (SC) level.


Your future duties and responsibilities
Working as a Service Designer youll be working on the end-to-end journey of the service to help users complete their goal and government deliver a policy intent. Your work will involve the creation of, or changes to, a transaction, product or single piece of content that stretches across digital and offline channels. Youll map out the end-to-end journey for a new service ensuring that there is a functional journey for all users and that we adhere to Government Service Standards.
As a Service Designer you will also be responsible for the following:
Creating end-to-end flow maps and interaction flows for the service being developed
Mapping touch points for the end-to-end service and identification of pain points or constraints
Representing the design of the service in Government service standard and accessibility assessments.
Creating service designs aligned to the Government design manual and style guides which meet policy intent and business need.
Working with the technical and solution architect to understand the technical designs and apply appropriate UCD focus to the to-be service maps using insights gained from the User Research.


Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Youll need to have good experience of working as a Service Designer ideally with experience of working to UK Government Digital standards.
Youll also need to demonstrate core skills in the following areas:
Communicating information you should be able to listen to the needs of technical and business stakeholders and interpret between them. Youll need to manage stakeholders expectations both within the team and with diverse senior stakeholders.
Digital perspective Youll be across changes in technology, adapting your approach accordingly. Able to make decisions to meet user needs in the government context.
Evidence and context-based design Ability to map and understand options test the different routes and solutions to a problem.
Leadership and guidance Ability to understand and take ownership of your decisions and have experience of resolving technical disputes between peers and indirect stakeholders, whilst considering all views and opinions.
Prototyping Understanding and experience of a variety of prototyping and how to iterate them to choose the most appropriate one.
Strategic thinking - Able to define strategies and policies, providing guidance to others on working in the strategic context.
Understanding constraints Understanding of UK Government Digital standards and ability to ensure these are met.
User focus - Able to collaborate with user researchers and can sell or represent users internally. Understands the difference between user needs and desires of the user.
