CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking an Engineer III to join our Transportation - Traffic & ITS Team from our office in Colonie, NY.

CHA’s Traffic and ITS team provides planning, analysis, modeling, and design development for public and private sector clients. Our team of traffic engineers, transportation planners, and technical staff provide a comprehensive breadth of knowledge and experience in all facets of modal mobility, accessibility, safety, technology, and deployment. From roadside sign inventories and safety audits to the latest intelligent transportation system (ITS) innovations and applications, our professionals are adept at managing the entire design development and implementation process.
The professional in this role is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and analyzing various technical systems to implement new products, or changes to an existing scheme, to suit individual client needs. The Engineer III will aid senior engineering staff in preparing technical reports, contract documents and cost estimates for various engineering tasks. The individual will also work on multiple projects in a timely and cost-effective manner to meet client, contractual and company requirements

This position will provide a comprehensive breadth of knowledge and experience in all facets of modal mobility, accessibility, safety, technology, and deployment. From roadside sign inventories and safety audits to the latest intelligent transportation system (ITS) innovations and applications, the Engineer III position will be adept at participating in the entire analysis, design and implementation processes.

Traffic Impact Study Peer Reviews
These projects provide a peer reviews of Traffic Impact Studies prepared by various consulting engineers for proposed developments. The Engineer III will be responsible for reviewing and verifying conformity of the study content to standard traffic engineering and planning practices, including but not limited to those described in the New York State Department of Transportation’s “Driveways and Traffic Impact Studies” guidance and ITE’s “Traffic Access and Impact Studies for Site Development – A Recommended Practice”.
Traffic Calming Studies.
The Engineer III will evaluate potential traffic calming measures.They will review these issues within the study area and is also responsible for preparing a data collection plan, evaluating crash data for all modes, identifying areas of concentration/concern, and analyzing the existing capacity conditions using Synchro, or similar analytical models. The Engineer III will support underground utility work and perform traffic data collection, studied traffic conditions for existing, and for different stages of Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MOT) Stages using SYNCHRO 11 traffic analysis software and provide recommendations.
Road Corridor Improvements.
The Engineer III’s work on these projects includes rehabilitating the existing pavement, improving safety along the corridor, reducing traffic delays, and improving and expanding pedestrian and multi-model accessibility, where practical. The project will also include the evaluation of potential intersection improvements.
