What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Manager position at Champion Foods?
This position is responsible for managing all maintenance activities within the food manufacturing plant. Works under the Director of Maintenance to insure the safe execution of maintenance and repair activities. Manages maintenance technicians and oversees activities of outside contractors as needed. Work collaboratively with other plant leadership, including production, logistics, sales and marketing, Information Systems and Finance for short and long term company goals.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the staff and resources to maintain manufacturing equipment and plant to a high degree of reliability. Supervise a crew of tradesmen and effectively communicate with all levels of plant personnel.
Maintain efficient use of people and resources to ensure priority repairs are made and preventative maintenance tasks and routines are scheduled and accomplished.
Coordinate, plan and develop contingency plans in order to minimize operational interruptions in the event of equipment breakdowns.
Analyze severity of maintenance problems and prioritizes daily emergencies to minimize plant down time and optimize equipment uptime as well as maximizing plant productivity.
Assist in executing the departmental strategic plan as designed by the Maintenance Director
Help to ensure that our plant and manufacturing equipment are in compliance with all government and local regulations as well as all internal policies including FDA, USDA, HACCP, and BRC, AIB, GMPs as well as others.
Contribute to the planning and development of the department budget. Assist with projections, planning and implementation of capital projects.
Collaborate with other operational and administrative functions to achieve department and corporate objectives.
Minimal Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
High School diploma with additional classes/education in industrial mechanical maintenance, HVAC, pneumatic equipment, etc. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in progressively complex plant maintenance responsibilities with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in supervision.
Evidence of ability to develop and manage training programs for staff.
Knowledge of plant state and regulatory regulations (USDA, OSHA, HACCP, GMP’s, etc.).
Proven experience leading and developing maintenance personnel like electricians, mechanics, pipefitters and other skilled trades. Requires hands-on experience in the trades, including electrical, plumbing, hydraulics, and pneumatics and welding.
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, construction drawings, machine manuals, blueprints and mechanical drawings.
Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple, concurrent projects and responsibilities.
Demonstrated computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, with advanced excel abilities, maintenance management software, such as CMMS).
Previous budgetary and maintenance related financial expertise. Understand equipment, parts, labor and training budgets.
Proven effective communication (verbal and written) skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Plant management in the food industry.
Working Conditions
Works in a variety of locations in the building as well as some outside. Visiting offices, common areas, elevators and restrooms and well as on the roof. Position may require continuous standing, squatting, lifting, sitting, bending and moving of heavy weight (over 50 pounds) material in difficult work positions.
Ability to work in confined spaces. Some activities will require frequent visual attention
