BASIC RESPONSIBILITY: Oversee all community areas with regard to the maintenance and management of the Champion Hills Community, all common area, design, and installation of landscaping, evaluate roads, lighting, and home maintenance as per the Bylaws and Community rules. Schedule and supervise the daily work of the Landscape Department to achieve the most efficient utilization of personnel and equipment. Assist the Community to maintain all mechanical, structural, and electrical systems and all operating equipment Assist the Director with the development of the Annual Operating Budget and Capital Equipment requirements and maintain the necessary control to keep expenditures within budgetary requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist in the preliminary screening of prospective employees with recommendations to the Director of Grounds
2. Schedule, assign and supervise the daily work requirements for the Landscape staff and participate as needed.
3. Provide initial training to new employees on safe operation of all equipment and tasks.
4. Provide training on all new job assignments resulting in use of different equipment as required.
5. Perform minor repairs and maintenance to all landscape equipment and engineering equipment as required.
6. Support the Safety Program through example; training staff at orientation and annually reinforce safety through scheduled monthly department safety meetings with employee participation, positive motivation, personal protective equipment and disciplinary action, if required.
7. Maintain a Pesticide License and direct the work of employees who apply product to ensure safe and proper use of the chemical and PPE.
8. Inspect the property daily to evaluate progress and results as well as identify any areas that have the potential of becoming a future concern.
9. Continually communicate with other departments to establish a teamwork concept.
10. Assist with the acquisition of equipment, materials and supplies necessary to accomplish all landscape projects and goals.
11. Communicate daily with the Director of Grounds to determine work requirements to be scheduled for the following day or project work to be accomplished based on approved plan of action and budgetary requirements.
12. Communicate daily with the Director of Grounds to provide progress reports and relevant information concerning equipment, personnel or other pertinent information.
13. Ensure that all equipment is in safe operating order and is maintained properly by the landscape employees. Monitor and require that unsafe equipment be locked out until repaired.
14. Develop the talents of the landscape staff to provide advancement opportunity and stability within the department.
15. Ensure proper Integrated pest management control throughout the responsible areas to ensure healthy growth to landscaping.
16. Communicate with Community Residents as always needed and represent the Management in a professional manner at all times
17. Report any condition that present safety issues with wildlife, insects and other hazards
18. Support all Club and Community Policies and Procedures as outlined by Troon Management
19. Complete all other tasks as assigned by the Director of Grounds and Facilities

WORKING CONDITIONS, ENVIRONMENT, AND HAZARDS:
- Exposure to outside elements, such as heat, cold and rain, uneven terrain, insects, and/or flying objects
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50lbs
- Contact with chemicals, fertilizers, or other agronomically applied products
- Exposure to high decibel of noise
- Association with and proximity to various machines, implements, and equipment used in the maintenance of landscaping Skills, Training, and Education Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year for education in Horticulture Curriculum
- 2 years’ experience in landscape design and installation
- AS degree in Horticulture preferred * Valid NC Pesticide License for Turf and Ornamental
- Provide a NC CAM License, if required
- Proven supervisory experience
- Computer literate – Windows Environment
- Operation of large and small equipment
