Laborer (Virginia Beach, VA)

Summary/Objective:

The Laborer assists in completing general maintenance tasks to ensure sand and gravel plant remains in a proper operating condition.

Essential Functions:

1. Assist the Plant Operator in ensuring that the sand and gravel plant and related equipment are operating properly at all times.
2. Maintain proper levels of raw materials, including keeping the hoppers full of aggregates, and notify the Plant Operator or manager of impending shortages on a timely basis.

1. Assist the Plant Operator with maintenance tasks, such as greasing, oiling, and replacing worn out components.
2. Keep equipment and plant site clean at all times. Perform miscellaneous duties and outside labor as requested, which may include, but not limited to, cleaning up around the plant, sweeping, shoveling, moving wheelbarrows, picking up equipment or supplies.

1. Perform all pre and post-trip inspections and complete daily inspection reports.
2. Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner. Follow proper procedures and complete required documentation if an accident or injury occurs. Notify manager or Safety Department as required.
3. Understand and comply with all safety rules set forth by the company and governmental regulatory agencies. Notify manager and the Safety Manager immediately of any potential or current safety problems.
4. Wear required PPE.
5. Follow all environmental regulations and clean up any excess material that could cause environmental problems.
6. Other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions:

1. Fill in for colleagues as needed.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Work Environment:

• Work time will be outdoor/field.
• Exposure to dust and fumes/offensive smells.
• Exposure to chemicals such as fuel, grease and oil.
• Close proximity to moving mechanical parts.

• Noise level will be moderate to loud.

Physical Demands:

• Lift a maximum weight of 100 lbs., repetitively lift 50 lbs., carry approximately 50 lbs., and push/pull approximately 50 lbs.
• Reach overhead and reach away from the body.
• Sit 2 hours per day, walk 2 hours per day, stand 2 hours per day, climb 2 hours per day, kneel 2 hours per day, crawl 1 hour per day, and squat the other 1 hour per day.
