School Bus Driver (Both Non-CDL and CDL)

Summary:

We are seeking candidates for bus driver positions for the remainder of the 2021-22 academic year and future academic school years. Drivers will transport students of all grade levels and other authorized persons on any of our regular routes with a possibility of athletic and other special events/trips. The schedule may be up to 5 hours/day or more; an example schedule would be 5:45 a.m.-8:15 a.m. and again at 2:45 p.m.-5:15 p.m.  These positions may use a non-CDL driver for our smaller routes or someone with a CDL for the larger routes. The school may pay for employees to earn their CDL.

Responsibilities:

• Drive school buses of varying sizes to safely transport students of all grade levels and other authorized persons
• Provide a high level of customer service to all constituencies, always representing Charles Wright Academy in a positive manner
• Practice respectful and effective behavior management, report misbehavior
• Check vehicle equipment, fuel, and warm up bus prior to departure daily; report any irregularities
• Assess daily and maintain a clean bus fleet inside and out, including windows
• Maintain consistent safety standards and practices
• Participate in bus driver training courses as scheduled by the Transportation Coordinator

Salary/Benefits:

Compensation ranges from $20.00 - $24.00 per hour and is dependent upon background, and breadth of experience. 

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• A valid Washington state driver’s license including CDL with school bus and passenger endorsement required, along with an acceptable driving record is preferred.
• Current Medical Examiner’s Certificate required
• First Aid and CPR certification required
• Covid-19 & MMR Vaccination required as mandated (subject to medical or religious exemption process).
• Sense of humor, a passion for working with children and an ability to relate well to a variety of constituencies (faculty, staff, parents, and students)

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience as a school bus driver or in the transportation field

All Charles Wright employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the first day of work in accordance with the State’s mandate. Additionally, the school requires all student-facing employees to be fully boosted. Proof of MMR vaccination or a titer test is also required. Accommodations due to medical or religious reasons may be requested for the COVID-19 vaccination and will follow the school’s policy and the iterative process.

Employment is contingent on the successful completion of a national background screening and fingerprinting process.
