Pay Starts at $14.50 /hr (ask about special duty pay at $19.38/hr for Ambulance)

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:

The Wheelchair Transportation Specialist provides safe, efficient and courteous transportation services to disabled patients on a scheduled basis. Specialists must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving history. Specialists must also attend special training and pass an exam for the safe operation of the assigned vehicle, are certified in first aid and CPR and must pass a DOT physical examination.

Candidate may also be trained to drive an ambulance and will obtain a SCDHEC Driver Card prior to this.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • General Responsibilities
  • Ability to safely operate both manual and hydraulic lifts and mechanisms to secure wheelchairs
  • Ability to safely and courteously drive patient from pick-up location to destination on a scheduled basis
  • Prepare manual and electronic trip reports, obtain necessary signatures and return completed forms
  • Ability to collect payments (if required) from patients and to provide receipts
  • Complete daily safety checks of vehicle and lift mechanism to ensure in good working order prior to going in-service
  • Duty to document required vehicle maintenance and communicate operational issues to Dispatch
  • Ensure cleanliness of assigned vehicle both prior to and at the end of shift including washing interior and exterior of the assigned vehicle
  • Ability to multi-load wheelchair patients and sequence routes to remain on-time and on-schedule
  • Communicates with Dispatch regarding locations during transports
  • Arrives in uniform with neat and clean appearance
  • Ability to timely and fully complete required documentation

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required

  • Knowledge of local driving routes and location of medical facilities
  • Good driving skills
  • Ability to positively and courteously interact with patients, facilities and MedTrust personnel
  • Ability to be on-time for all shifts
  • Knowledge of manual and hydraulic wheelchair lift equipment
  • Basic automotive knowledge (check fluids, windshield wipers, etc)
  • Ability to manage a schedule with multiple daily transports completing assigned tasks on-time

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent

21 years of age

3-5 years Driving Experience

CPR and First Aid Certification

Excellent verbal and writing skills (English)
