OVERVIEW

At Camp Prep, we strive to bring out the best in children. Our team of dedicated Counselors reflects the quality of this program in their diverse skills and backgrounds, leadership, maturity and enthusiasm. As a Counselor, you are expected to lead by example by being respectful, mature, compassionate, fun, and enthusiastic with all campers and staff. You are expected to participate in the activities to the extent that you are demonstrating or helping campers. You will help the campers to build self-confidence by allowing them to develop their skills and explore their potential.

This is a full-time or part-time, summer position of an average 40 hours/five days per week (full day, Monday through Friday) or 20 hours/five days per week (half-day, Monday through Friday). Flexible scheduling is required to maintain camp coverage throughout the camp day (8:00 am to 5:00 pm) to properly supervise campers or in the absence of another camp staff member.

SUPERVISION
Reports directly to the Director of Summer Camps.

Requirements

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Always supervise all assigned campers, ensuring that their safety is the Counselor’s top priority
  • Provide hands-on learning experiences that are developmentally appropriate for campers and adhere to the camp description provided in the camp brochure and other marketing materials
  • Communicate camp-related needs to Camp Leadership
  • Arrive on time, prepare materials, and be ready to receive campers at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of camp
  • Supervise and/or assist campers at Morning (8:00 – 9:00) or Afternoon Care (4:00 – 5:00) located on the Lower School playground, weather permitting and according to shift
  • Supervise campers at Lunch (12:00 – 12:30) and/or Recess (12:30 – 1:00) according to shift
  • Ensure that camper safety during activities and transitions on campus
  • Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Camp Leadership
  • Know, understand, and follow ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program
  • Help guide Junior Counselors in Training (CITs) to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills
  • If applicable, maintain constant surveillance of the pool area/body of water, know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately
  • Maintain appropriate materials, documents, and records for camper safety
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom
  • Maintain and submit the appropriate timesheet

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Upon hire, attend Camp Prep Counselor Orientation and Open House
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
  • Experience working with groups larger than 10 children
