About The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who can support our efforts towards designing incredibly efficient and robust biomass processing, char handling, and bio oil offtake systems. The three most pressing areas of designing biomass, char, and bio oil systems today are installing and commissioning biomass drying equipment, designing a char post-processing line, and designing a bio oil offtake solution to minimize operator intervention.
This role would interface heavily with the operations team, seeking feedback from this key stakeholder group is critical in designing effective systems. Designing these systems requires that the engineer can effectively research and source many different types of large agricultural, forestry, and industrial processing equipment, design and build prototypes, design and execute testing procedures to effectively evaluate and optimize biomass equipment and is a strong systems thinker.
This engineer needs to know how to design large, potentially dangerous, complex systems that include a mix of custom designed components with off-the-shelf heavy duty machinery. This role would also serve as a resource to other mechanical engineers on the team. It wouldn’t be uncommon for another engineer to ask for a design review, or brainstorm actively with this person.
Responsibilities:
- You’ll serve as an engineering resource on the Colorado Development Engineering team, which is currently responsible for designing and building multiple concurrent biomass processing lines as well as the systems that prepare biochar for meeting customer requirements and safe transport
- You will also be responsible for designing, commissioning, and writing design documentation for the systems that deliver biomass to the pyrolysis equipment, offtake bio oil from our pyrolysis systems, and systems that process our char
- You will be responsible for the design, build, and quick, efficient testing of critical key pieces of equipment used in the biomass processing lines
- You will work closely with our test engineers and fabricators in order to drive projects quickly to key milestones and deliverables
Requirements:
- Strong mechanical engineering experience with a really firm understanding of first principles
- CAD knowledge is a must, we use Solidworks!
- Familiar with GD&T principles, and familiar with basic fabrication techniques. An ability to work with in house and out of house fabrication to take your idea and turn it into a prototype, and eventually a production-ready system
- Familiarity with electromechanical systems and automation of these systems
- Hands-on experience with hardware, machines, industrial equipment etc.
- Ability to communicate priorities and work cross functionally
- An excitement for scaling up hardware that has the potential to positively impact climate change!
Bonus (but not required):
- Solids and fluids handling experience
- Thermal conversion process experience, including the ability to design for harsh environments (high temperature, pressurized, corrosive)
- Design of heavy equipment, hydraulic systems or production lines
- Experience with conveying systems
The anticipated salary range is $117-$147k, dependent on factors such as experience within the job, within the industry, education, etc
Salary : $117,000 - $147,000
