Overview
The R&D Scientist I is an entry level, exempt position that reports to a member of the R&D Management team. The R&D Scientist I is responsible for conducting development experiments and manufacturing of lateral test components. The R&D Scientist I may also be producing prototype test materials and producing or testing project progression.
Essential Functions
- Assist on research and development necessary for the development of novel technology.
- Scientist must have a full comprehension of project so that they can support project progression with daily/weekly communication with project manager/supervisor.
- Prepare and summarize data for review by manager or outside departments.
- Generate, revise, and update standard operating procedures and safety protocol as needed.
- Maintain and order backup raw and disposable materials for project and lab needs.
- Take inventory of raw materials, disposables, and kit/project materials.
- Honesty with work related mistakes for research integrity.
- Ability to apply production/QC experience/knowledge to new product development.
- The ability to quickly change priorities and effectively incorporate procedural changes.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required:
- BS or equivalent in Biochemistry or life sciences related field with 1-2 years’ work experience.
- Knowledgeable on Production or Quality Control procedures and equipment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and Outlook.
Preferred:
- Lateral flow diagnostic test manufacturing experience.
- Skilled with Microsoft Word and Excel
- GMP/GLP experience.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to remain stationary for an extended length of time. This includes performing bench work in a laboratory setting.
- Must have the ability to operate a computer, printer and handheld diagnostic instruments.
- Must be able to visually inspect and label spraying defects on a moving component web on a reel to reel machine
- Will be exposed to fluctuating environmental conditions. I.e. temperatures ranging from -20°C in a walk-in cold-room where finished product is stored to 28°C in reel to reel spray room.
