Job Title: Product Design & Operations Intern

Company: Chartwell Studio

Location: Chicago

Duration: 6-month contract (with potential for hire)

Hours: 20-30 hours per week

Compensation: $19/hr

About Us: Chartwell Studio designs innovative peel & stick wall covering programs for mass, specialty and value channel retailers. We specialize in dressing walls with stylish coverings and layering décor pieces that are affordable for every person on any budget, allowing them to create a space they love.

Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern with a passion for product design and a willingness to take on administrative tasks. This position is ideal for a current college student or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and creative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Design Assistance: Support the design team with CAD modeling, particularly using Rhino, and assist in packaging design.
  • Concept Development: Help create concepts for new products, incorporating design trends and customer feedback.
  • Prototyping: conceptual, finished packaged products with multi-media.
  • Value Engineering: Participate in value engineering initiatives to optimize product designs for manufacturing efficiencies and cost-effectiveness.
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform administrative duties, including sample inventory management and arranging sample kits for customers.
  • Shipping and Logistics: Understand basic shipping concepts, including determining the size and weight of cartons based on piece count.
  • Partner and Supplier Communication: Maintain direct contact with partners and factories in China and the USA.
  • International Experience: Participate in a trip to China in November to visit suppliers, with our Product Manager.

  • Direct Report: Product Manager
  • Supporting: Sales team, Operations
  • Communications: Suppliers in China and the USA

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant college program (e.g., Product Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design).
  • Basic skills in CAD modeling, specifically with Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Understanding of packaging design principles.
  • Basic knowledge of shipping and logistics.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with international partners.
  • Willingness to handle a mix of creative and administrative tasks.
