Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Automotive Painter to join our growing team in a high-volume, DRP driven collision repair shop. As the Lead Automotive Painter, you will be responsible for overseeing the Paint Department, ensuring the highest quality paint finishes and efficient workflow to meet production targets. Expertise in color matching, surface preparation, and application techniques will be essential in delivering exceptional results.
- Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding, masking, and priming, ensuring smooth and flawless paint application
- Utilize advanced knowledge of painting and color matching techniques
- Apply different types of paint (basecoat, clear coat, tri-coat, etc.) using spray guns, following manufacturer guidelines and best practices
- Perform quality inspections throughout the paint process, identifying and resolving any imperfections or issues
- Maintain and calibrate paint booths, spray guns, and related equipment to ensure optimal performance and adherence to safety standards
- Monitor inventory levels of paints, solvents, and supplies, coordinating restock of the materials as needed
- Document all paint operations including materials used, time spent, and an relevant notes or observations
- Communicate effectively with management and other team members to provide updates on any work in process
- Coordinate daily workflow, assign tasks, and monitor progress to meet production schedules and customer expectations
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience (5 years) as an automotive painter, preferably in a high-volume collision repair shop
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid AK Driver License with minimal moving violations
- Reliable, organized and punctual
- Effective communication and organizational skills
- Proficient in using various painting tools and equipment, including spray guns and paint booths
- Solid understanding of automotive paint types, finishes, and industry-standard processes
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and address painting-related challenges
- Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations
- Abliity to work overtime when deadlines need to be met
- I-Car, ASE and Manufacturer Certifications preferred

- Lifting and Carrying: The Painter may need to lift and carry various equipment, paint cans, and other supplies. You should be capable of lifting objects of moderate weight (typically up to 50 pounds) safely and without risk of injury.
- Mobility and Flexibility: Ability to move around the workspace, reaching into tight spaces, and maneuvering in confined areas. Being physically agile and flexible will allow you to navigate around vehicles and access different parts of the vehicle for painting purposes.
- Visual Acuity: Good vision, including depth perception and color perception, is essential for an automotive painter. You need to be able to accurately identify colors and shades, detect imperfections, and ensure proper paint application.
- Respiratory Health: Automotive painting often involves working with paint, solvents, and other chemicals that emit fumes. While proper safety measures and ventilation systems are in place, it is important to have a healthy respiratory system to minimize the risks associated with exposure to paint fumes.
