Check-Mate Manufacturing has open positions for CNC Machinists to fabricate plastic and metal parts using computer numerical control (CNC) machines.  CNC Machinists monitor computers and machines to maintain top-notch quality and precision for customers in a variety of industries ranging from firearms to medical.

  • Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and computerized numerical controls (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. 
  • Programs CNC machines with instructions, offsets, reference points, and other calculations to create parts needed in manufacturing.
  • Fits and assembles machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • May operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
  • May develop specifications from blue prints, general description and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
  • May confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • May specialize in setting up and operating computerized numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers.
  • Interprets overall engineering plans, surface locations and machining parameters in order to correctly program machines.
  • Inspects finished parts for quality and blueprint accuracy.
  • Tracks and maintains the stock of raw materials used to fabricate ordered parts.
  • Works with inventory managers to place orders and reports low stock levels.
  • Manages inventory and orders in the most efficient and cost-effective ways.
  • Completes regular maintenance on CNC lathe machines.
  • Schedules maintenance to resolve problems with the CNC lathe machines.
  • Safely uses of CNC lathes and other machines is crucial for both efficient manufacturing and the well-being of all the employees.

Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program or additional certifications in metalworking or manufacturing, such as the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification
  • 3-5 years of machining experience
  • 1-5 years of experience with CNC lathes, measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height and depth gauges)
  • 1-5  years of experience with shop floor control software (IQMS MES, TrakSYS, E2 Shop System)
  • 1-5 years of experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, SolidWorks)
  • Technically competence operating CNC machines in an industrial setting
  • Hand and eye coordination and attention to detail
