What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chehalis-Speech Language Pathologist 2024-25 position at Chehalis School District?

This posting is for a 1.0 FTE Speech Language Pathologist for the 2024-25 school year. There are three (3) positions available.

Job Goal:

To develop speech and language skills for students with disabilities, that interfere with an individual student's ability to access the educational program.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates specialized skills through a high-level knowledge in designing and conducting specialized programs of prevention, intervention, remediation and evaluation in the area of speech and communication skills.
  • Serves as a resource to school staff members in communication and speech improvement.
  • Assist and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.
  • Provides screening to identify speech handicapped children at regular intervals and at specified levels.
  • Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
  • Demonstrates management of special and technical environment through a high level of performance in managing and organizing the special materials, equipment and environment essential to the specialized programs.
  • Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities.
  • Provides inservice education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and continued professional growth.
  • Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
  • Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists and related services.
  • Compiles case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early developmental history, and environmental history are deemed appropriate.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
  • Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Complete work at the assigned workstation.
  • Consistently deal with people in a polite and courteous manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits:
Employee Compensation and Benefits are outlined in the CEA Bargaining Agreement. See Article XIII Economic Provisions, Article VII Leaves, Appendix O.

The District complies with State Law regarding SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) and DRS (Washington State Department of Retirement Systems) eligibility and benefits. If eligible, SEBB benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, AD&D Insurance, Flexible Spending Arrangements (FSA), and Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP). Retirement benefits, if eligible, may include membership in TRS retirement plans in addition to voluntary Deferred Compensation Program and 403(b) Annuity enrollments. Paid time off is also outlined in the CEA Bargaining Agreement.
