Job Summary:
The Chelsea School District is seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Safety & Security to contribute to our commitment to safety and security in alignment with the district's strategic plan goals. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of security and safety programs, working collaboratively with school and district administration, staff, students and local law enforcement agencies, as well as community stakeholders.
Qualifications:
● Comprehensive understanding of state and local policies related to security and school safety programs.
● Experience in law enforcement related fields, including leading investigations, restorative practices, and working with students.
● Knowledge of laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines pertaining to safety and security.
● Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Core Responsibilities:
● Collaborate with school and district administration to establish effective safety regulations, procedures, and plans.
● Foster positive relationships will all stakeholders, with an emphasis on student relationships.
● Engage directly with students to educate and involve them in safety initiatives, fostering a culture of security awareness and active participation.
● Support opportunities for student participation in safety initiatives as they relate to the district’s strategic plan and portrait of the graduate.
● Develop, implement, and manage programs addressing security and school safety needs.
● Conduct training programs for site-based administrators on safety and security matters, including but not limited to: A.L.I.C.E, Comprehensive School Threat Assessments and Trauma Informed Care.
● Develop and maintain the District's Emergency Operations Plan and Crisis Response Team protocols.
● Manage district camera systems and oversee employee background checks.
● Serve as the liaison between the district and local law enforcement agencies.
● Coordinate security plans for events and activities outside the school day.
● Advocate for the district in school safety grants and state aid.
● School Community event supervision and support.
● Represent the district in security/school safety matters at state and national organizations.
Additional Responsibilities to Ensure Student and Staff Safety:
● Coordinate district collaborative efforts with municipal agencies for accident
investigations, law enforcement partnership including crossing guard deployment, traffic
Management and protection of property,
● Work with CSD nurses on the contents of school emergency red bags, order and distribute supplies to schools as requested.
● Attended specialized training and workshops designed to enhance knowledge in student safety, crisis management, and emergency response protocols, ensuring up-to-date skills and techniques to maintain a secure school environment.
● Manage school AEDs and any additional school safety tools.
● Manage the district’s visitor management system.
● Facilitate the district’s emergency communication system.
● Recommend updates to School Board policies and Standard Operating Procedures,
safety and security manuals.
● Recommend safety and security equipment purchases and upgrades; maintaining
records of fire and other emergency drills.
● Conduct safety, security and emergency preparedness assessments by conducting
and/or coordinating annual safety assessments.
● And other duties as assigned.
