The Medical Assistant is anunlicensed medical professional cross-trained to perform routineadministrative and clinical tasks to keep the medical centersrunning smoothly.
The duties of Medical Assistant vary from settingto setting, depending on the size, location and type. In additionto administrative duties, Care Promoters perform clinical dutiesunder direct physician supervision in accordance with state medicalpractice acts.
The Medical Assistant is an integral member of aPhysician-lead Care Team that is focused on providing excellent andcomprehensive primary care for a specific population ofpatients.
ESSENTIAL JOBDUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Measuresand records patient vital signs; records patient interview andmedical history.
- Catalogs and communicatespatient needs to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist and / or otherclinical personnel.
- Prepares patients forexaminations and performs routine screening tests; assistsphysician with exams; explains treatment procedures and physicians'instructions to patient.
- Observes patients andreports any changes in patient conditions to the PCP, Clinician,Specialist and / or other clinicalpersonnel.
- Perform non-critical medical andtherapeutic procedures based on medical instructions. Collectsphlebotomy and other lab specimens;
performs basic waived labtests.
Prepares and administers medications;changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and otherfirst aid procedures;
uses CPR skills when necessary, all underphysician supervision.
- Maintains supplies,equipment, stocks and sterilizes instruments; practices OSHA safetystandards; performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation atall times.
- Processes patient phone messages,returning calls and routing them to other team members asappropriate; calls patients to obtain and relay pertinentinformation for the physician.
- Upon physicianapproval and authorization, calls in prescriptions to the pharmacy.Uses communication skills with appropriate medical terminology;
andfollows appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct;authorized individuals will use the ChenMed Rx system to supportphysician medication dispensing.
- Provideshealth coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthylifestyle choices. Follows up with coached patients via weeklycalls.
- Performs other duties as assigned andmodified at manager’sdiscretion.

Proficientskills in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word,PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel plus a variety of otherword-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and presentationsoftware
Abilityand willingness to travel locally and / or regionally up to 10% of the time to assist in covering othercenters, asneeded
Spokenand written fluency inEnglish
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCECRITERIA :
- Highschool diploma or equivalent education (GED)required
- Graduation from a nationallyaccredited Medical Assistant program OR comparable healthcarevocational training (i.e. foreign-trained physician, paramedic,etc.) required
- A minimum of 1 year of workexperience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician orsimilar in a hospital, medical clinic or comparable environment ORdocumented clinical rotation training can be substituted for workexperience
- Experience working with geriatricpatients is a plus
- EMR system experiencepreferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS)certification from the American Heart Association (AMA) or AmericanRed Cross required w / in first 90 days ofemployment
