Deputy Tax/Vehicle Clerk
Rusk and Alto, Texas (will work several days in each location)
Position Summary
Performs a variety of clerical duties to provide support for the Cherokee County Tax Assessor-Collector, performs duties to ensure friendly customer service and efficient department operations.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Registering and titling motor vehicles, processing renewals of registration
- Assisting in distribution of disability placards, license plates and specialty license plates, temporary plates, confirmation of passing inspection data
- Creating and maintaining daily entries and monthly reports on such activities
- Providing information regarding auto titling and registration (phone, mail or counter)
- Comprehension and enforcement of daily changes in Texas laws pertaining to auto registration and titling tasks
- Accepts and receives tax payments
- Collects, counts, and disburses money
- Counts, locates and reconciles discrepancies of cash drawer
- Handles a variety of banking transactions
- Photocopies, scans and faxes, send emails
- Types documents and correspondence
- Keeps office area neat and tidy
- Answers telephone calls and distributes messages
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs additional duties as needed
- Posts outgoing mail and delivers to post office
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required to Perform the Essential Functions
- Knowledge of relevant software applications including MS Office
- Proficient in use of email and internet
- Proficient in use of ten-key adding machine
- Proficient numeracy skills
- Accurate keyboard skills
Work Environment
- Work will be performed indoors
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift files, boxes, and other materials up to 25 pounds unassisted
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years verifiable previous employment in a customer service related field, cash collections/handling, or office setting. Previous Motor vehicle registration is a plus.
- Ability to read and decipher a variety of correspondence, reports, legal forms, receipts, and financial statements are a must for this position.
- This position will work in both the Rusk and Alto Tax Office and requires a candidate that can work independently and be present and accountable for all job duties including traveling to complete banking transactions on a daily basis.
- Will be required to commute daily to the Rusk office.
- Employee must maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and valid Texas Automobile insurance.
