Job Summary:
Assists the optometrist and/or ophthalmologist in the provision of eye care and eyeglass selection of the patients.
Job Duties:
Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Assists patients with the selection of frames assuring the patient is satisfied and his/her needs are fulfilled. Makes minor repairs of broken frames. Dispenses eyewear to patients adjusting the frames to achieve a comfortable fit. Notifies patients, in a timely manner, upon receipt of eyewear. Works with various optical companies contracted with Cherokee Nation in order to maintain an adequate supply of sample frames from which patients may select. Performs vision screening at schools and other designated facilities as directed by his/her supervisor. Maintains HIPSS compliance and confidentiality at all times and protects all personal health information as it relates to patient data. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibility is required.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
High school education; or general education degree (GED).
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information. Must meet and maintain periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
