What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Technician II position at Chesapeake Utilities Corporation?

  • Make installations for gas service in accordance with applicable codes.
    • Set tanks according to code.
  • Properly size and install gas lines as necessary.
  • Install appliances.
  • Make necessary connections to appliances according to code.
  • Perform gas check and prepare proper documentation.
  • Perform pressure test and document
  • Perform selected minor repairs on appliances and equipment.
  • Complete work orders properly documenting materials used and time expended
  • Disconnect gas service if no payment arrangements can be made.
  • Perform tank and equipment maintenance.
    • Visually inspect tanks per ASME and DOT regulations.
  • Check tank for leaks and make necessary repairs if necessary.

Perform other duties as assigned by the service manager / district manager.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Drive a bulk truck and deliver gas on as needed basis. Safe operation of a boom truck to install and remove customer tanks


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Commercial Driver’s License required Class B with Hazmat. DOT Physical required. Willing to obtain and maintain all proper training/certificates required by DOT/OSHA/PSC/FMSA. Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License. Mechanical aptitude. Attending training and safety seminars as required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Working knowledge of motor vehicles, various other power equipment, testing equipment and various other hand tools. General understanding of the propane industry and all applicable codes and regulations. Knowledge of proper procedures for handling leak investigations and providing service repairs. Working knowledge of the properties of propane, propane appliances/equipment and other operating supplies and inventory items utilized in performing assigned tasks.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS: Responsible for proper maintenance of operation equipment and tools utilized in the performance of the assigned tasks.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR MATERIALS: Accountable for inventory and supplies and monies collected.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR DIRECTION AND INSTRUCTION OF OTHERS: Responsible for keeping customers informed of proper handling and use of propane appliances.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS: Responsible for proper maintenance of operation equipment and tools utilized in the performance of the assigned tasks.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR MATERIALS: Accountable for inventory and supplies and monies collected.


WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

1-3 years

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or equivalent

WORKING CONDITIONS

Outside in a construction setting or on a customers’ premises with minimal office time. Working around potentially hazardous/flammable substances and large equipment. Very physical activity requiring all types of movement. The ability to lift at least 75 pounds. Adverse weather conditions and dogs. Working in all outside weather conditions. Must be able perform on call duties as assigned.
