Green Mountain Union School District is seeking a dedicated and innovative leader to be our new Principal at Chester Andover Elementary School. CAES is a K-6 school located in the charming town of Chester, Vermont. We offer a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and ready access to a wealth of outdoor activities.
The successful candidate will have principal certification as well as significant experience as a building leader and as an elementary level teacher. We are looking for a visionary leader with the capacity to inspire teachers and students in our supportive community, the skills to improve data-driven instructional practice, and familiarity with trauma transformative work, MTSS, and restorative practices.
POSITION GOAL
To serve as the chief administrator of the school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and professional development of each staff member.
A. INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP
The principal will:
- Lead the evaluation of and development of goals and objectives for the school and for staff
- Lead the planning of the school’s instructional program, including support for essential arts at all grade levels
- Lead and guide the implementation of personalized and proficiency-based education
- Promote positive student attitude and support a trauma-informed approach
- Provide and maintain a learning environment that has high expectations for academic achievement and social development
- Evaluate school programs and staff and initiate needed improvements
- Support teacher growth through the evaluation and supervision model
- Supervise or designate the supervision of all staff
- Focus on data-driven goals that align with the Continuous Improvement Plan
- Analyze student learning data to align instructional practices with student needs
- Implement and support the MTSS plan
- Lead and support use of instructional technology
B. ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP
The principal will:
- Act to upgrade their own professional knowledge and skills
- Work collaboratively with all stakeholders
- Help in the coordination and implementation of co-curricular programs
- Create a positive school climate and support the staff Wellness Program
- Demonstrate exemplary oral and written communication skills
- Apply knowledge of fiscal management to use resources responsibly, including management of the facility
- Involve the staff in managing budget priorities
- Oversee and coordinate a search process for hiring new personnel
- Lead or designate leader of HHB and Title IX investigations
- Act as Emergency Coordinator: organize, run and maintain records for all required safety drills
C. COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
The principal will:
- Move beyond the walls of the school to foster parent and community partnerships
- Establish effective practices for open communication
- Assess and respond to community needs and perceptions
- Articulate and promote community awareness of the school’s and the district’s mission, programs, activities and services
- Define and disseminate information about school policies and procedures to parents, students, staff and community
The principal shall have a minimum of a MA degree, previous administrative experience, and at least 5 years of elementary classroom teaching experience. Must hold or be eligible to hold a valid VT Principal License. A fingerprint supported background check is required.
