Job Summary:
The Art Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art. Essential Functions:
Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history
Provides instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing and painting
Understands the versatility of acrylic paints: dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting, monoprinting
Understands a variety of “masters” techniques
Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media technique
Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
Instructs students in proper care and use of tools and equipment
Organizes storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
Evaluates each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports
Selects and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintain required inventory records
Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community
May sponsor exhibits from outside the school
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as after school art club
Complies with policies, regulations and procedures of Chester Community Charter School; communicates effectively with parents and work collaboratively with staff
Displays high-level professional conduct and image at all times; establishes and maintains an acceptable attendance record; and participates in extra-curricular activities and/or leadership roles outside the classroom
Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited college or university
Pennsylvania Criminal Record Check Clearance
Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
FBI Criminal Background Clearance
Certifications/Licenses:
Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate in Art Education PK-12
Demonstrated Knowledge of:
Mastery of the necessary content knowledge and skills to successfully teach assigned content area(s) and grade level(s) and deliver exceptional standards-based instruction in assigned content area(s) and grade level(s) that ensures academic growth for all students, including those with special needs
Proficiency in automated student information systems for progress and grade reporting and class work documentation and ability to integrate technology into instructional delivery
Exceptional classroom management, organization, planning, instructional delivery, leadership, and technical skills and the ability to utilize differentiated instructional methods to engage students in positive learning experiences
The principles, practices and methods of grade level education
Subject-specific expertise
The contents, materials, methodologies and practices utilized within education at the respective grade level, with an emphasis toward enrichment education
Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)
Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTII)
Critical thinking methodologies and problem-solving techniques
Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards
Demonstrated Ability to:
Assess students’ needs and learning styles and to design appropriate differentiated instruction to meet their needs
Use and apply simulations and technological innovations in the classroom in pursuit of instructional strategies
Use planned art lessons in a manner that allows students to use their art experience as a way to enhance language and math skills
Facilitate inquiry-based learning as well as whole class, small group and individual instruction, driven by student needs
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, support staff, parents and students
