Opening Position: Library Director
The Parkesburg Free Library seeks an energetic and dynamic community-minded individual to serve as its Library
Director. The Parkesburg Free Library is located in the Borough of Parkesburg in southeastern Pennsylvania and
serves a population of 12,931 in the Borough of Parkesburg and the townships of Highland, Londonderry,
Sadsbury, West Fallowfield and West Sadsbury. The library is a member of the Chester County Library System.
The Library Director is a full-time and salaried position which requires independent judgement. The Director is
responsible for the daily operations of the library and the recruiting, hiring, coaching and supervision of its staff
of 10 part-time employees. The Library Director recommends library policies, services, and facilities to the
Library Board of Trustees, establishes library methods and procedures, administers library programs and
services to meet community needs, and promotes library services to all potential users.

Location: Parkesburg, PA
Job Type: Full-time, 40 hours a week
Salary: $50,000 - $53,000 Salary commensurate with experience
Qualifications/Requirements:
Professional Librarian - Preferred
o Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year accredited college or university and a masters in library service
from a school approved by the appropriate Commonwealth agency or accredited by the
American Library Association.
Provisional Librarian Certification - Required
o Bachelor’s degree including 12 credits in library science from a 4-year accredited college or
university or
o Bachelor’s degree with no credits in library science from a 4-year accredited college or
university and 12 college credits in library science
FBI and PA Criminal Background Checks and PA Child Abuse History Clearance required
Physical Requirements:
The individual in this position should possess the physical and sensory abilities to satisfy and
successfully perform all essential job functions and responsibilities. This includes, but is not limited to:
o Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
o Reaching at waist level, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking,
pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping
Job Responsibilities (Including but not limited to the following):
Manager the day-to-day operations of the Parkesburg Free Library
o Lead, develop, administer, and coordinate the daily work
o Perform managerial duties related to training, cross-training and supervising personnel,
financial matters, budgeting, payroll, and building maintenance
o Provide service at the Circulation desk, including policy explanation, complaint resolution,
problem solving, patron registration, fine collection, and the circulation of materials
o Manage collection development for library material selection, acquisitions, processing, and
weeding
o Coordinate with program coordinators to develop a broad range of programs for all ages
Possess interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication skills, in order to collaborate
with various internal and external groups
Exhibit sound and accurate judgement and demonstrate integrity and honesty
Maintain State and library system mandated library standards and the library’s mission and goals
Be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Prepare required reports
o Prepare all required Chester County Library System, County, and State reports
Cooperate and maintain relationships with the community, including the service area municipalities,
the local government agencies, businesses, schools, community service organizations, and the Chester
County Library System
o Attend CCLS meetings, trainings, workshops, and committee work
o Represent Parkesburg Free Library at meetings and workshops
o Plan and conduct a library publicity program using a monthly newsletter, the newspaper,
bulletin boards, brochures, the library website, attending community events and other
promotional techniques
Collaborate with the Parkesburg Free Library Board of Trustees
o Prepare monthly and annual reports
o Annually review and update the library’s By-laws, Policy Handbook, Personnel Policy Handbook,
and Strategic Plan and establish both short-term and long-term goals
o Identify and address relevant financial, operational, staffing, and facility matters
o Coordinate fundraising and advise and support the Friends of the Library
o Pursue financial support on local, state, and national level
o Aggressively pursue grant opportunities to enhance and expand library services and programs
