Chevron has two Research Associate openings in the Chemistry Development & Fundamentals Team of the Chevron Oronite business unit, located at the Richmond Technology Center in Richmond, California.

Research Associate position #1: This position will be responsible for conducting day-to-day technical work in a lubricants research testing laboratory in support of multiple additive research and development projects under the direction of Senior Chemists and Research Scientists.
Research Associate position #2: This position will be responsible for conducting day-to-day technical work in an organic synthesis laboratory in support of multiple additive research and development projects under the direction of Senior Chemists and Research Scientists.
Candidates should have demonstrated laboratory experience in an academic or industrial settings and will be required to work on a wide range of chemistries in a safe and efficient manner. Candidates must maintain a high degree of independence and responsibility, reliability, and accountability in planning, executing, and reporting laboratory experiments. Candidate must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with other researchers. This is a safety sensitive position.

Responsibilities for these positions may include but are not limited to:
- Rigorously adhere to safe laboratory work practices
- Help maintain the laboratories and ensure a safe working environment
- Perform analytical and bench testing
- Use laboratory and analytical skills to complete experiments
- Lubricant blending and chemical analysis on samples
- Perform multi-gram level organic synthesis experiments on bench scale, including chemical synthesis (e.g., planning, execution), purification (e.g., flash chromatography, TLC), characterization (e.g., spectroscopic techniques such as NMR, FTIR, MS, and analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC), data interpretation, and data analysis.
- Communicate clearly and effectively and collaborate with other research chemists/engineers
- Maintain a high degree of independence, responsibility, reliability, and accountability in planning and reporting results of laboratory experiments
- Documenting technical research in written reports and presentations
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or related science discipline.
- 1 years of hands-on laboratory experience in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer chemistry, materials chemistry, analytical science, or other closely related science disciplines
- Demonstrated organizational and communication skills, including accuracy in preparing high quality technical reports of scientific data
- Demonstrated track record of high performance and working safely in a laboratory setting
- Proven experience working within a team environment and collaborating with other research chemists/physical scientists/engineers
- Demonstrated Chevron Way behaviors and Operational Excellence
- 2 years of hands-on laboratory experience as outlined in the Required Qualifications.
- Demonstrated experience in research and technical competency in chemistry, analytical techniques, and data interpretation

- The anticipated salary range for this position is $76,200 - $130,700. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
