What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Talent Development position at Chewy?
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for a Director, Global Talent Development (Chewy University) to build and lead a world-class team that will produce engaging, scalable learning experiences that impact Chewy’s 21,000 Team Members. As a key thought leader on Chewy’s Talent Development team, this role will develop impactful learning offerings that advance the caliber of Chewy leadership talent and solidify the embodiment of Chewy’s culture at all levels of the organization. This position reports to the Senior Director of Talent Development in Chewy’s global HR department.
What You’ll Do:
- Create the vision for delivering innovative, high-quality learning solutions that instill a culture of learning across Chewy’s Corporate, Customer Service, and Fulfillment functions
- Partner with HR business partners, business leaders, and our executive team to conduct needs assessments and develop learning journeys that help business units achieve their strategic goals
- Develop and deploy numerous concurrent high-visibility learning programs that demonstrably improve our leaders’ abilities to build high-performing teams and drive results; example programs include:
- Leadership development programs supporting the needs of all leaders, from first time managers to senior executives
- Onboarding programs for new hires
- Programming that supports the everyday embodiment of Chewy’s culture
- Other learning opportunities that keep our Team Members engaged and retained – company, industry education sessions and mentorship programs
- Lay out and implement the training calendar and other routines that will provide a sustainable, reliable learning experience for our Team Members and leaders
- Define the org structure needed to support learning initiatives; hire, develop, and lead the L&D team accordingly
- Define and measure success metrics to assess short- and long-term effectiveness of global learning programs
- Stay aligned with Chewy’s other Learning & Development teams to ensure a globally consistent brand and approach to training
- Stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in adult learning methods; implement solutions to continuously keep Chewy learning relevant for our corporate talent base
- Determine the balance between internal & external training resources and manage any external vendor relationships; accordingly, propose and oversee the resulting budget
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience; concentration in Organization Development, Education, Instructional Design, Communications or Business Administration preferred
- Minimum 10 years of broad and progressive experience in the L&D space
- Proven track record of establishing a vision for an L&D org and building a high quality portfolio of multiple large-scale training programs that together achieve said vision
- Ability to navigate the complex issues of a rapidly scaling organization and build the case for continued investment in Learning & Development programs
- Specific experience overseeing well-reputed leadership development and/or cultural acclimation programming highly preferred
- Experience implementing a wide array of training experiences (instructor-led, eLearning, etc.)
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with demonstrated abilities to communicate effectively (written and oral) with all types of employees, from front-line workers to corporate executives
- Previous experience managing learning & development professionals and working cross-functionally with other technical and non-technical teams
- Experience designing and standing up a Corporate University
- Strong levels of business acumen
- Solid organizational and project management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and with little oversight
- Notable attention to detail and accuracy; high level of commitment to exceptional work quality
- Demonstrated capacity to be highly creative, analytical, and data-driven at same time
- Highly adaptable to change; able to easily navigate between high level strategy and roll-up-sleeves execution
- Travel to Chewy’s other site locations as needed (25%)
