What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Automation & Engineering position at Chewy?
Our Opportunity:
We are currently looking for a dedicated Manager, Automation Engineering for our fulfillment center operations network, responsible for equipment reliability and operational performance of equipment, specifically conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply, and robotics.
What you'll do:
- Working with site Facilities Managers to oversee reliable operations and technical support of control systems throughout the region.
- Directly leads and supports Controls Systems Engineers at automated fulfillment centers,
- Manages and approves regional automation & controls change requests through the appropriate systems.
- Leads the effort in control systems assessment and upgrade path planning. Also works with Operations Engineering, FC Software, and vendors to standardize new equipment commissioning processes and resource needs.
- Partners with Director Reliability and Engineering, Regional Facilities Managers, Facilities Managers, and Operations Leaders on incident escalation with on-call support, troubleshooting, remediation, and root cause analysis.
- Works closely with network standardization, readiness inspections, and automation training program development.
- This position will possess strong leadership, project management and communication skills, and deliver results in a dynamic work environment.
- Position requires travel up to 25% to support multiple fulfillment centers and initiatives.
What you’ll need:
- A completed bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Controls/Mechatronics Engineering field from an accredited university or 4 years relevant industry experience
- 2 years of management experience in project management, controls design and schematic approval and vendor relationship.
- 4 years cumulative working experience in automation roles specializing in PLC based control system design, development and support utilizing barcode and sensor technologies.
- Understanding of controls of equipment design principles, device layout and data communication methodology.
- Knowledge of WMS/WCS API design methodology, PLC network topology, controls software platforms, and field device interface design (i.e. scanner, device network).
- Experience identifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, programming, and designing HMI and control network components.
- Experience identifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying motor controls including motor starters, variable frequency drives (VFD), and standard electrical components.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite, Power Point Presentation, and Visio.
Added Bonus:
- BS or MS degree in degree in Electrical/Controls/Mechatronics Engineering is a preferred.
- Thorough understanding of leading solution architecture for automation & controls
- Two years engineering experience in major industrial automation or material handling system company is preferred.
- Excellent written, verbal and customer service skills
- Experience with industrial robotics
- Experience with ASRS systems
