CONSUMER LOAN ASSISTANT – JOB DESCRIPTION
A Banking Consumer Loan Assistant plays a crucial role in assisting customers with their consumer loan applications and related inquiries. This job is typically found in banks and financial institutions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Customer Assistance:
- o Provide information and guidance to customers on various consumer loan products, including personal loans, auto loans, and credit cards.
- o Assist customers in understanding loan terms, interest rates, repayment options, and eligibility requirements.
- Application Processing:
- o Accept and review loan applications submitted by customers, ensuring they are complete and accurate.
- o Verify applicants' financial information, credit history, and collateral (if applicable).
- Documentation and Filing:
- o Prepare and maintain loan application documentation, including forms, agreements, and credit reports.
- o Ensure that all required documents are properly filed and organized for easy retrieval.
- Communication:
- o Communicate with customers to request additional information or clarification on their loan applications.
- o Keep customers informed about the status of their loan applications and any required follow-up actions.
- Data Entry and Record-Keeping:
- o Enter customer information and loan application details into the bank's computer systems accurately.
- o Maintain records of all loan applications, approvals, denials, and related correspondence.
- Compliance:
- o Ensure that all loan applications and processes adhere to regulatory and compliance standards, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.
- Customer Relations:
- o Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, addressing their concerns and questions in a professional and helpful manner.
- Cross-Selling:
- o Identify opportunities to cross-sell other banking products and services, such as savings accounts or credit card upgrades, to customers during loan application discussions.
- Training and Knowledge:
- o Stay updated on bank policies, loan products, and industry regulations.
- o Participate in ongoing training to enhance product knowledge and customer service skills.
- Teamwork:
- o Collaborate with loan officers, underwriters, and other bank personnel to streamline the loan application process and provide excellent customer service.
- Administrative Support:
- o Assist with various administrative tasks as needed, including filing, reporting, and other duties assigned by superiors.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research as needed for external customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This work is sedentary and requires the following physical activities:
- Sitting for long periods of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing, and visual acuity
- Frequent lifting (up to 10 pounds of paper supplies or minor office equipment)

- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person and over the phone.

- Ability to learn and navigate computer systems and websites necessary to complete job description and other duties as assigned.

- A solid understanding of structuring and underwriting commercial credits.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-3 years work experience in bank lending preferred
- Proven history of meeting departmental budget goals and personal budget goals.
