What are the responsibilities and job description for the Forensic interviewer position at Child Advocacy Center of Aiken County?

The role of the Forensic Interviewer at the Child Advocacy Center of Aiken is vital to our mission of providing comprehensive services to child victims of abuse or trauma.

Forensic Interviewers conduct interviews with children in a neutral, sensitive, and developmentally appropriate manner, employing trauma-informed techniques to gather information for investigative purposes.

This position will also manage our Multidisciplinary Team to ensure all investigations and services are coordinated efficiently.

Responsibilities include but not limited to :

  • Coordinates Forensic Interviews with CAC staff and investigators both pre- and post-interview including history and assessments in order to avoid duplication.
  • Conducts forensic interviews with children utilizing the ChildFirst SC Protocol and processes as described in the agency’s MDT protocol.
  • Assists DSS and law enforcement in receiving forensic interview information or reports as needed.
  • Participates in post-interview case discussion with other MDT team members.
  • Testifies in court as required.
  • Assists with entering and updating all client data related to forensic interviews into database.
  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure that all investigations and services are coordinated efficiently and expeditiously.
  • Communicates with MDT members regarding upcoming Case Review meetings.
  • Prepare case files and agendas for MDT Case Review meetings in Aiken and Barnwell.
  • Leads all case review meetings including presentation of case and positive discussions among the partner agencies.
  • Ensures that the Interagency Agreement is updated and reflects the CAC’s and MDT’s protocol and guidelines per National Children’s Alliance Accreditation standards, and the SC Child Abuse Response Protocol.
  • Ensures that protocols are developed with input from the staff and MDT and reviewed / updated every 3 years.
  • Communicates with investigators and solicitor’s office and / or victim advocates to coordinate information sharing regarding case status, court dates and appointments with family members.

Develops and / or schedules training or information about available training for MDT members.

Develops and conducts orientation for new MDT members.

  • Collects, records, and reviews all program data to ensure accuracy of statistical management reports.
  • Ensures all data is updated in the agency’s database monthly.
  • Prepares monthly data reports to ED.
  • Attends meetings and conferences representing the Center.
  • Maintains contact with community partner organizations.
  • Speaks to community groups as needed.
  • Assists all staff in any daily operations as needed, i.e. greeting clients, maintaining a clean and professional environment, aiding another position when they are absent.
  • Oversees and mentors undergraduate and graduate interns as needed.
  • Assists and / or provides community awareness and education events.

Qualifications include but not limited to :

Master’s degree in one of the Human Services fields, leadership experience preferred.

Must hold a professional counselor / therapist license (LMSW, LPC-A, LPC, LPC-S, LCSW, LCPC, LPCC, LMHC, LCMHC, LMFT, etc.

or actively pursuing licensure.

Be able to pass a criminal background and SC Central Registry check.

Must be able to develop a strong working knowledge of the South Carolina Child Abuse Response Protocol and other laws affecting the CAC and the children and families served.

Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License and be willing to travel as needed for training and multi-county (Aiken, Barnwell) support.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to pass / certify in all training necessary for the position, i.e. ChildFirst, MDT facilitation training, and other needed training within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Maintains and adheres to the highest of level of professional ethics and standards, including confidentiality requirements.
  • Demonstrates a professional manner in interaction with families, other staff and the community.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to cultural competency.
  • Seeks and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Seeks out continuing education programs, especially in forensic interviewing
  • Continues to learn and grow professionally.
  • Ensures that the rights of children and parents are protected.
