ASSISTANT TEACHER, CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER - PART-TIME
TRUMAN COLLEGE
Truman College seeks a part-time Assistant Teacher. Under the supervision of the Teacher, the Assistant Teacher provides instructional, clerical and non-instructional support in the Child Development Center classroom, in order to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum that is aligned with the educational and philosophical goals of the program. Perform related duties as required.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Level III
• Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a related field, plus at least one (1) year of experience of working in an early childhood classroom/group care setting is required or an equivalent combination of education supervised training and experience is required 2 years of classroom experience preferred. Attain a Level 4 IL Gateways ECE or Infant Toddler credential within one year of hire.
Or
• Sixty (60) semester hours or 90 quarter hours and/or Associate’s or bachelor degree from an accredited college or university. Have a Level 4 ECE or Infant Toddler IL Gateway Credential.
Level II
• Completion of all required course work for an Associate or Bachelor degree in Early Childhood or Child Development with pending completion of the practicum course within one year of hire, and some experience with young children (0-5). Attain IL Gateway Level 3 ECE or Infant Toddler Credential within 90 days of hire.
Or
• Sixty (60) semester hours or 90 quarter hours and/or Associate’s or bachelor degree from an accredited college or university. Have a Level 3 ECE or Infant Toddler IL Gateway Credential.
Level I
• Sixty (60) semester hours or 90 quarter hours and/or Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with 6 hours of course work in Child Development or ECE or equivalent. Preferred one year of experience working with young children birth – 5 years. Attain IL Gateway Level 2 ECE or Infant Toddler Credential within 90 days of hire.
Or
•30 semester hours (or ninety [45] quarter hours) of credit from an accredited college or university with six semester hours (or nine [9] quarter hours) in courses directly related to Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a related field from birth to age six (6), (1) year of work experience in working with young children birth – 5 years. Attain IL Gateway Level 2 ECE or Infant Toddler Credential within 90 days of hire.
All Levels
• Must have and maintain a warm, supportive attitude towards children.
• Must be flexible in receiving assignments and adapting to changes in the program.
• Must be willing to accept supervision and continue professional development in the field in order to improve work performance.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with children, parents, and other staff members, as well as for documenting children’s growth and learning.
• Should be able to assist in the creation and implementation of developmentally appropriate lessons, interact positively with children and other staff, and understand and attend to the physical, social, cognitive, health and safety, and emotional needs of the children.
• Must be able to work well within a culturally diverse environment with the ability to handle situations with tact and diplomacy.
• Ability to operate computers and use applicable software required.
