Position Summary
Children’s Aid (CA) summer camp programs operate Monday through Friday, from morning through afternoon/ early evening at elementary schools, middle schools, andcommunity centers. During program hours, group leaders/ facilitators co-lead groups of students participating in academic enrichment and social emotional learning activities.
The Summer Group Leader is responsible for the supervision of up to 20 children in either elementary or middle school. The group leader is a leader who commits to teach by modeling and demonstrates characteristics from which participants can learn. It is essential that candidates applying for this position enjoy being around school age children, respect them as people, and seek to include them in fun learning activities. The Group Leaders are expected to be punctual, responsible, have a positive attitude and provide encouragement to children. Group leaders must ensure that children have a fun, engaging and safe summer. Group Leaders will also need to communicate regularly with data entry staff, the Program Director, Education Coordinator and other administrative staff regarding needs for materials and supplies and to support the implementation of clubs and curriculums. Group Leaders are asked to attend regular staff meetings, trainings and work cooperatively with other staff members in the program and in the schools.
Salary: $15 - $25 (per hour)
Essential Duties
- Supervise and lead a group of children in a daycare, center, classroom setting
- Implement behavior management strategies to ensure a safe and positive environment
- Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities to promote learning and development
- Provide guidance and support to children in their daily routines
- Collaborate with other staff members to create and maintain a nurturing and engaging environment
- Maintain open communication with parents regarding their child's progress and any concerns
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children, such as childcare, babysitting, or daycare
- Strong knowledge of behavior management techniques and classroom management strategies
- Understanding of childhood development principles and the ability to educate children in an engaging manner
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate effectively with colleagues
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
