The position of Mental Health Outpatient Therapist will pay $66,560 for unlicensed Therapists and $72,560 for licensed Therapists.

Differentials that apply: 

Bilingual Spanish Speaking Differential: $5000 annually

Additionally, the lifespan compensation range of this position is:

Unlicensed Therapist: $66,560- $71,560

Licensed Therapist: $72,560- $77,560


Must have Covid-19 Vaccine and Booster.


Learn more about the Job:

The purpose for this role is to implement Outpatient Services to eligible children and their families that are integrated, individualized, and tailored to the outpatients needs. The Licensed Therapist provides clinical interventions designed to reduce mental health impairments, promote client and family safety, and increase family stability for the client and family.

The Outpatient Therapist also provides family, individual, conjoint, and group psychotherapy as necessary to promote the development of parenting/child management skills consistent with maintaining an environment that is both safe and sufficiently structured to support the safe and successful residence of the client in the community. This role promotes family-centered, strengths-based approaches to service delivery that encourage functioning in the school and home environments.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under the general oversight of the Program Supervisor of his/her designee, conduct DMH Intake Assessment and Clinical Diagnostic Evaluation, provide coordination of treatment planning and implementation, and develop the service plans.
  • Demonstrate intervention techniques and provide behavioral interventions in a manner consistent with the individualized service plan and mental health objectives.
  • Provide family, individual, conjoint, and group psychotherapeutic interventions that are school and family centered, and strengths based.
  • Achieve established service delivery / productivity expectation of 65% of a 40-hour work week.
  • Meet the documentation standards of completing all documentation per DMH and CB policy within 24 hours from date of service.
  • Provide system-oriented interventions for each client's family, foster family, and support system. System interventions include a full range of collaborative activities with other members of the mental health treatment team and interagency teams.
  • Provide direct case management interventions as required.
  • Participate in weekly Utilization Management supervision, monthly clinical supervision, and Evidenced Based Practice group sessions as required.
  • Work closely with case managers, TBS Workers, Behavioral Specialists, and other therapists as available to facilitate implementation of the child/family treatment plan.
  • Complete all charting/paperwork within the same day of service delivery and ensure all billable activity is entered on time.
  • Document 100% of activity in compliance with State of California Standards for Medi-Cal, Short-Doyle, EPSDT service delivery.
  • Attend and participate in all training events focused on service philosophy, efficiency issues, and clinical delivery issues as approved by Program Supervisor.
  • Participate in outcome-oriented data collection for Program Evaluation.
  • Participate in a multi-cultural team approach that is sensitive to the cultural and linguistic needs of the families served.
  • Maintain confidentiality in matters of agency operations, personnel, and clients.
  • As a mandated reporter, must follow child abuse reporting guidelines and report all suspicions of child abuse and/or neglect.

Job Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years direct service experience with severely emotionally disturbed clients in an inpatient or outpatient health care setting (internship and/or practicum time may be substituted).
  • One (1) year case management experience preferred.
  • Master's degree in psychology, social work, childcare counseling, education or development from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Valid California driver's license
  • Licensure as either Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW), or Registered Psychologist in active status with State of California Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology.

Salary : $70,480 - $80,000
