Summary:
This job is responsible for providing expert direct patient care, directly supporting and developing respiratory care practitioners (RCPs) and externs assigned to them.

Responsibilities:
  • Leadership Responsibilities:
  • 1. Evaluate employee performance against existing department standards including annual PEAC review, quarterly reviews, coaching, etc..
  • 2. Assure that direct reports adhere to the standards of performance
  • 3. Train, coach, and monitor direct reports to understand and apply Patient and Family Centered Care principles and practices in daily operations
  • 4. Monitor and assure direct reports are adhering to hospital and department policies and procedures related to clinical care, safety and quality, operations, financial stewardship and personnel activities
  • 5. Support hospital and department initiatives and hold direct reports accountable to changes
  • 6. Participate in the selection, training, and skill development of direct reports
  • 7. Actively support and participate in respiratory care shared governance committees or hospital committees as assigned
  • 8. Adhere to hospital and department policies and procedures related to clinical care, safety and quality, operations, financial stewardship and personnel activities and monitor and assure direct reports are doing the same
  • 9. In addition to maintaining respiratory care team leader competencies, must maintain respiratory operational team leader (ROTL) competency to serve as relief ROTL.
  • Direct Patient Care Responsibilities:
  • 1. Serve as the content expert with multidisciplinary team members, including providers in the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of the age-specific, individualized plan of care
  • 2. Serve in a clinical capacity (RCP) performing the duties described in the job description associated with the role of RCP
  • 3. Review and evaluate respiratory orders for assigned patients and as a resource for other RCP's on the unit, for appropriateness and for clinical therapeutic objectives
  • 4. Review physician progress notes to enhance care; and participate in patient rounds
  • 5. Review and evaluate patient orders for assigned patients and as a resource for other RCP's on the unit, for appropriateness and for clinical therapeutic objectives
  • 6. Perform and assist in CPR and other emergency situations including airway ,management, chest compressions, obtaining and running arterial blood gases, electrolytes and capillary gases
  • 7. Provides direct patient care to patients in all areas including but not limited to: aerosol therapy, CPT, MDI, Suctioning, Oxygen therapy Pulse oximetry, Incentive Spirometry, Plan of Care, Ventilator Management, Gas Therapy, etc…
  • Quality Assurance and Process Improvement Responsibilities:
  • 1. Actively participate in the development of quality assurance indicators and monitor those within the scope of assigned clinical practice
  • 2. Collaborate on a daily basis with members of other disciplines on the assigned unit(s) in process improvement or other quality and safety initiatives
How You’ll Be Successful:
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • At least 3 years previous pediatric or neonatal respiratory care experience in an acute care hospital setting. Req
EDUCATION
  • Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience Req
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Pref
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • RRT-NPS recognized by the NBRC within 6 months of hire
  • BLS, PALS Req
  • Texas license for Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) recognized by Texas Department of Health Req
  • NRP (Plano and NICU Team leaders) Req
  • B.L.S. instructor for NICU, Cardiac, Legacy and Acute Care team leaders (within 1 year of hire) Pref
  • Initial Pediatric Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviors (PPMAB) training must completed within 90 days of hire and be renewed annually (Plano and OCH locations only) 90 Days Req
JOB PROFILE
  • Supervisor of a team; spends at least 50% of the time providing people leadership to a team
  • Typical span of control: Administrative 12-15, Clinical 12-15, Support Services 15-17; e.g. Admin: Fin, IT, Legal, HR, Public Affairs; Support Services: EVS, Security, Engineering, Food Services;
  • Plans and executes day to day operational needs
  • Provides guidance, coaching, and feedback
  • Provides input to employment decisions, and participates in performance reviews
  • Works within established precedents and practices; receives guidance and oversight from a higher-level manager
  • Monitors key day to day operational metrics
  • Provides technical guidance to others on a frequent basis and rounds with employees in the team
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Children's resource availability
