Chimney Hill Lifeguard Manager Job Description Summer 2024
Position Title: Lifeguard Manager
Lifeguard Managers supervise pool staff. The Lifeguard Manager is responsible for monitoring the facilities and activities at the Chimney Hill Pool. Managers will communicate and enforce rules and regulations in a personable and professional manner while working under the supervision of the Chimney Hill Association Manager. The Lifeguard Manager will ensure the safety of staff and patrons in and around the pools and follow their training when responding to any incidents. All lifeguarding jobs are considered seasonal positions.
A Lifeguard, or Lifesaver, is responsible for surveying a body of water and conducting rescues to help weak or injured swimmers get to safety. Their duties include speaking with swimmers to enforce swimming rules, keeping track of each swimmer in the water, and administering first aid to injured swimmers.
Position Summary
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with CHCA policies and procedures.
LIFEGUARD: Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with CHCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by CHCA and/or the state Health Department code. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving. Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action. Performs all maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.
Lifeguard Manager duties and responsibilities:
●Upholds and enforces all Chimney Hill policies and procedures.
●Exercise direct supervision of lifeguard staff including shift rotation schedule, breaks, and the number of lifeguards on duty based on the number of patrons in the pool area.
●Perform rescues and provide emergency care when needed.
●Knowledgeable of the rules and regulations for the pool.
●Test water chemical composition when needed.
●Closely monitor activities related to the pool area, identifying any safety issues throughout shift. Conduct daily safety checks. Operate and maintain all safety equipment and supplies.
●Opening and closing the pool each day according to scheduled hours. Perform opening and closing checklists.
●Responds to basic public inquiries and directs concerns to the appropriate authority.
●Maintain a proactive approach to safety and risk management by enforcing rules, scanning for distressed swimmers, observe, document and report safety concerns.
●Completes reports and forms associated with pool logs for check in, chemical logs, report safety and disciplinary problems to the Chimney Hill Association Manager. Regularly treat the pool with the correct amount of chemicals
●Attend training sessions and maintains all required certifications.
●Perform general maintenance and janitorial duties to maintain an orderly, friendly, clean and safe environment for guests and co-workers.
●Maintain professional appearance while on duty.
●Demonstrates and supports Chimney Hill customer service standards.
●Perform related duties as required. Lifeguard Manager and lifeguards are responsible for many duties during a typical shift.
●Directing swimmers out of water in dangerous conditions
●Closely monitoring weather reports to make sure guests remain safe.
●Maintaining a clean pool environment
Lifeguard skills and qualifications:
●Lifeguard: 1 year Experience (Preferred)
●YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
●Current Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification (or equivalent course from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or National Safety Council).
●Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
●Valid CPO certification
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors:
●Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
●Must be able to remain alert.
●Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods. Must be able to lift and pull 50lbs.
●Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
●Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
●Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
●Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
●Ability to work outside (environments include humidity, heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions).
BACKGROUND CHECKS:
