PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION
Our team is growing! We are adding a new Director of Engineering to lead our dynamic product team including Engineering, QA, and UI/UX at Chipply. As a new leader within our organization, you'll execute the product vision in collaboration with our CEO and President to deliver features and enhancements and facilitate the day-to-day technical development using the Agile development method.
The successful candidate will become a trusted leader within the business, adept at understanding needs and converting them into deliverables that business stakeholders understand and agree with. This leader must ensure that projects are delivered per estimates successfully and repeatedly. And given the rapid growth of the company, the candidate must possess the ability to grow and scale the engineering team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the engineering staff and ensure the team goals and objectives are met
Keen understanding of the product vision and ability develop engineering strategy and roadmap aligned with product vision
Responsible for organizing, prioritizing, and assessing work as scrum master
Incorporate feature requests, organize and prioritize backlog, and develop user stories and acceptance criteria
Manage sprint planning and monitor sprint burn downs
Utilize KPIs and metrics to support all phases of the development and delivery process
Report on metrics, service levels, and KPIs to illustrate continuous improvement
Identify issues and risks and make changes in a timely, structured manner
Identify process gaps and build capabilities to grow and improve, including refinement of the internal Agile development process
Manage staffing and operational budget in collaboration with the CEO
Organize and communicate effectively with the team and sponsors, as well as third parties (e.g. partners, clients)
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field required, master’s degree preferred
Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on experience in software development
Minimum 1-2 years leading/managing a software development team
Experience with the following technologies/tools/techniques:
Agile practices: managing backlogs, initiative/sprint burn downs, story writing, etc.
TDD, QA/testing: creating test suites covering functional and system-level testing with a high degree of automation
Dev Ops practices covering automated build and deployment of code
Project management based on Agile
Familiarity with modern cloud application architecture
Experience with SQL Database or knowledge of relational databases
Experience leading teams in an Agile/Scrum environment
Ability to communicate in a clear and professional manner, including via presentations as necessary
Ability to drive solutions by collaborating with and involving the necessary stakeholders
Ability to disseminate technical information and present it to various technical and non-technical
audiences
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with peers from within and outside the
engineering organization
Desire to embrace the challenges and opportunities of being a leader within the organization
Highly dependable with an excellent work ethic
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to grow, inspire, and scale teams in a collaborative environment
